People love to get on the "DON'T change anything or you will get cancer!" band wagon but what problems have people had with stainless steal guide rods? I have shoot thousands of rounds with no issue but I want a true survey of what problems people have had. I like the idea of my SHTF gun having a guide rod that will not chip. Does it happen a lot? No but it has. Double feeds dont happen alot  but I still work malfunction drills, just in case.

I  use OEM, and replace them after 4000-5000 rounds.

I bought steel guide rods and frame plugs when I was new to all this, but stopped when I realized that there are literally millions of Glocks in service worldwide and plastic rods have never been an issue. I have 3 or 4 steel rods in my parts box and I have no idea what they go to.

To answer your question, a Glock engineer would be the best source of information as I'm sure Glock looked into steel rods at some point.

Glocks do flex so if I had to make an educated guess as to why Glock doesn't use steel guide rods, that could be it.
That said, I've used stainless guide rods with no issues and I have stock guide rods with no issues.
For me, the steel guide rods just made the slide function feel smoother.

I do the same on my G34 for different loads.  Otherwise I would use an OEM.  They are so cheap and since it is a consumable they get replaced frequently.

this is what I thought. No real issues against it. People are not seeing frame cracks, etc due to is after 20K rounds. Thanks guys

Frame cracks why?  The guide rod does not do a whole lot other than make field stripping easier and installing a recoil spring easier.

My 19 has had no problem with one installed.

I put one in my 19 when I first got into Glocks and that was the only time I had problems. No issues since switching back to the plastic Glock part.

"If it's not broke, fix it until it is" comes to mind...

The only reason I could see using one is for a race gun you wanted to tune to a specific load.  Other than that your just asking for problems.

I bought a used Glock with a stainless guide rod.  No problems out of it.
