So I've got a brand new G17 here withe me. I'm looking to make it sort of duty/carry weapon that can be used for self defense. I have a G19 as well that has the zev tech competition spring kit and V4 race connector and I love it! It's so smooth. But I need something with a little more trigger pull weight to be safe.

What spring/part kits would you all recommend that will give me cleaner take up, better reset, and a trigger pull in the 5 lb. range?

A minus connector with the stock spring will give you a 4.3 - 6.5 lb trigger pull. Glock part number SP 00721

What you seek is a "." Dot connector and heavy trigger reset spring.

[#3]
A dot connector with stock spring will produce a pull weight between 4.5 - 6.7 lbs. A stronger or stiffer trigger spring will increase the pull weight.

Whats wrong with leaving it stock for a duty gun?

The stock trigger is horrible. I have a lot of handguns and this one is by far the worst. A ton of take-up, heavy trigger pull, long reset. Horrible compared to a stock M&P or XD

You didn't say which generation 17 this is, but regardless the stock connector should give a better(shorter) reset compared to the Zev connector.  The lighter pull connectors have a longer reset from my experience, which I find isn't worth the trade-off since it's all about riding that reset.  Stock connectors will also provide the requested trigger pull in the 5lb range. For the cleaner take up, I suggest you go shoot a couple thousand rounds out of any Glock before judging the trigger.  They really do smooth out with use.  You could do the $.25 polish to help speed up the process if you can't afford the ammo or can't get to the range.  But just shooting it would be a better idea so you can function check and get a feel for a gun you're planning to use in a self defense role.  A bonus here is that if you learn to shoot the Glock with the stock trigger as designed you'll likely be able to shoot your 19 race gun trigger a whole lot better too.

About the only thing I'd be willing to do to a duty/carry gun is a polish job and swap connectors.

Yes leave stock or add a Glock part minus connector with stock trigger/S spring.

I tried a ZEV and a Ghost 3.5 in my Gen 4 G19 but went back to the stock connector and a 6 lb. trigger spring with a polish on the trigger bar.

I thought it felt pretty decent for a stock trigger connector after everything was polished.

Generally I don't.

Yeah, not for everyone.  Maybe competition shooters are all about the reset, but it doesn't seem like a good defensive technique.  IMHO.

Riding the reset works well with a stock glock.

Believe it or not there was a good thread on this in GD. 3.5# connector with NY1 trigger is supposed to be a good combination for carry. I haven't tried it but intend to. YMMV.

If that's the same thing as the "-" connector, I tried that combo in my G4 G17 and didn't care for it.

As a shooting technique?

When they become more serious shooters they will realize riding the reset is a bad technique.  I had to get to the range to realize I was not riding the reset when you pointed this out.  I honestly thought when you brought it up awhile back that I was doing it myself but after shooting I found I had to forcefully make myself ride the reset as that was not the technique I was using.

Does anyone CC a Vogel trigger?  Not cheap ($149) but less than a Zev.  Polished OEM parts except for multiple 4, 4.5 and 5 lb springs.

My apologies, I'm new to this forum and have seen this "GD" mentioned but don't know what it means? Could you enlighten me?  BTW, new to the Glock (G19) owner family, now what to do with it....

GD has too many opinions, and not enough facts.

I have two Glocks, Gen 3 and 4. I also have a 1911 with a really nice custom trigger, and several other relatively nice pistols. I've never felt like the Glock trigger needed to be changed, and could never figure out why anybody would. I think some people just have to customize their pistols so they can feel like it's the best.

All you need to buy for a new Glock is mags, ammo, and range time. Especially for a self defense pistol.  Don't be afraid to dry fire on the couch all night either.

I did upgrade the sights on one, but left the other stock since I think they work better in a holster.
