I've tried damn near all their different sizes and I'd think you'd be happiest with at least a 6 for general practical/ defensive use.

i have been looking into this for a while.  I have not done it yet so i have no experience.  All that i have been reading say the 6.5 is the best for red dots

First time using a red dot 6.5. Experienced red dot user 3.5. The 6.5 will be faster close up? The 3.5 will be more accurate at distance. I use the 3.5 and hated the 9 moa green dot as it was too large.

I use (3 of) the 9moa, dual-illuminated green dot (RM05G) RMRs on pistols.

My preference is irrelevant. I strongly recommend trying the 3.25 MOA and the 6.5 MOA side by side if you can......then make your decision.

I have a 6.5 on my 17, ordered a 3.5 for my 34 but don't have it yet to compare side by side. 6.5 is probably best for a carry gun but try them both and decide.

I went with the 12.9 MOA amber triangle on my 19 and love it.

I have a 3.25 rmr on my 19.  Its my first red dot on a hand gun and I do not have any experience with other size red dots on pistols.  I like the 3.25 and find it reasonably quick to acquire at close cqb range.  Im relatively new to red dots on pistols and only have 1500 rounds or so through my rmr'd 19.  I find that if I turn the brightness up on the dot it appears larger in the "tube".  The up side to having a smaller moa dot is that its a more precise aiming point, so longer range shots may be easier.  YMMV.

3 Moa dot on my 17 and it's perfect. Never used the 6.5 and I'm sure it's fine as well. I based my purchase on what Chris Costa recommended since he was really only one putting out videos about them. That combined with what a buddy of mine who had one already. I just bought another 3 Moa for my 19. If you have any questions hit me up I've got quite a bit of trigger time behind mine

Bigger, or brighter, should be easier to see faster.

A 6.5 MOA dot should be about 6.5" in diameter at 100 yds.  Quite a bit smaller than someone's chest yet you should still be able to see their head no problem, as long as you know where to aim at 100 yds.

I've got the dual illuminated green dot (the big dot, don't remember the size) on my CZ P09 and will be getting another CZ done here in the next month or so.  The CZ shot very well before the dot, now the dot is helping me shoot it closer to it, and my, potential.  Old eyes, blurry sights or blurry target, yes the dot is blurry but still better than lining up blurry sights on blurry targets.

One range trip and I'm sold on it.  I will not install red dots on every handgun I own but they will be on the guns I may carry for serious work.

Bigger MOA is better for pistol work.

Eyes can track much much faster.

12.9 moa green triangle. It's the biggest option for quick work and the most accurate at distance using the tip of the triangle.

It depends on what you are using the pistol for the most.

At the range, lots of our shooting revolves around accuracy - ex) we play darts on a paper dartboard.

For this use, the smaller the dot the easier to hit the double and triple rings.

For hitting steel targets, defensive training and getting on center mass targets quickly, the larger dots work great.

Best thing to do is set up 2 guns identically with one having a small MOA dot and the other a larger one.  Problem solved.  Just takes money.
