I had a Glock 34 for USPSA production. I've moved recently and there's only IDPA around here so was thinking of making an ESP gun. Since IDPA doesn't have minor or major I was thinking of a 35 or 22 shooting 180g minor loads. Anybody have direct comparison of a 34 vs a 35 shooting the same power factor and how they compare in recoil impulse and ability to track the sights?
I don't reload yet but Atlanta arms has a few different 180g minor loads. I'm a big fan of their 147g 9mm rounds. Also considering a CZ shadow custom and STI Eagle or Trojan but I know I like glocks. |
| Maybe I'm missing something but I'm confused by your question? Usually the only time I see people switching from 9mm to .40 for comps is when there is a power factor involved. Usually when power factor is not an issue people stick with 9mm, especially if they don't reload. I don't understand why you would want to switch to the .40? |

Because a lot of people say a 180g bullet at 130pf has a softer and more manageable recoil compared to a 147g bullet at 130pf. Trying to figure out if that's true. |

Any ranges around you with rentals? Maybe you could just buy a box of each load you're considering and go run it through a rental G34 and G35 to see how you like it yourself? It would be an inexpensive way to find your definitive answer. |

I have a 35, reload a 180gr bullet to 150pf. Any less than that I feel the gun is just too slow for my liking. Recoil is still very light, 13lb recoil spring. Just my experience, no experience with a 34 and 9mm. I bought a 40, at the I shot USPSA, more options with 40. Division sect. If I had to do it all over again I would have went with a 34 and 9mm. Cheaper to reload ect. |

Bullyboy... you are penalized for peripheral hits with a minor caliber (9mm) but a center mass "A" hit scores the same...I did not shoot my G35 with 180 major loads as well as my G34 shooting minor... my preferred game is multi gun, and currently there is not major/minor scoring in the Tactical Optics division... I shoot my G34 in Limited minor for USPSA...
a 40>9 conversion barrel for a G35 would be an inexpensive option... just the price for some 9mm magazines...I use one occasionally with my G23, though I typically take the time to slip a 9mm extractor in the slide |

I thought that I saw it somewhere that in shooting competitions that you get a extra point for hits the higher you go in calibers. if in 9mm a hit would be 2 points and if it was 40s&w and 45 acp the same hit would be 3 points. Not in IDPA. USPSA in certain divisions yes. |

I shoot 200gr minor .40 loads for GSSF... no comparison, it's way softer than 9mm anything. I've never tried 180gr, I've always used 200 for .40.
200gr major loads feel pretty good for major power factor. G34 for Production G35 for Limited G17 or G22, G21, and G26 for GSSF The last match, I noticed more of a difference than you would think going from the .40 minor loads through the G22 to the 9mm minor loads in the G26. |

This^ I had 2000 Zero 200gr .40's that I shot out of a G35 in minor because I couldn't get powder to make major. I used TiteGroup and chronyed them out at about 154 PF. Could have even gone lighter. Need to make 170+ PF for Standard in IPSC. They were way lighter recoil than any 9mm I ever shot. Am shooting Zero 180's now in major. Lots of thump with those. |

Never heard that before but I don't do many comps. Thanks for the info. |
