Just got it in today from MidwayUSA, put my 21lb springs on it to run 45 super in my gen 3 G30. got to 13 rounds (Underwood 230gr GD), on the 14 the slide failed to go into battery. I cleared the pistol and when I did I heard something rattling around, when I broke it down I found that the piece of the guide rod that seats against the barrel lug shattered. Midway pretty much told me sorry but we can't help you since it was already used in the gun, I tried contacting Wolff but no one picked up the phone. I looked over the pistol and it doesn't looked like anything else was damaged, here's a couple pics of the rod and pieces I was able to recover. anyone here ever had this issue? is the Lone Wolf stainless rod better?

Brownells would have gave you a refund, no questions asked. If Brownells is an option, Brownells is the answer, for that reason.

I'm sure they will but I've got to say this has shaken my confidence in their products durability/reliability. this piece is in my carry rotation and I'm not to sure about trusting my life to it.

That's looks like MIM. I would think the Lone Wolf stainless rod (or any non MIM rod) would be MUCH stronger. If it is MIM it is am example of why I do not like MIM in any gun. Others here tout MIM to be as strong as regular steel and make it out to be the way of the future and the best thing since sliced bread. Not so I...<><....

neither have I but you need the heavier recoil springs to run 45 super.

I have had one break but the pistol was still functional.

OP is that a Tungsten (W) guide rod or stainless steel?

Wolff describes it as solid steel, here's a link Wolff Guide Rod
ETA: I emailed Wolff I'll let you guys know what they say.

A reasonable man might not run 45 super in a small-frame gun not built for it

But yeah, that's a brittle fracture, I'm guessing bad heat treat.  There's nothing metal striking that guide rod during a normal cycle, the slide stop holds the barrel back a tiny bit.

Is the frame any different then the G29? 10mm runs at a much higher pressure then 45 super. I'm not the first person to do this I've read plenty of threads on GT were guys are running super in their G21 & G30's.

My bad My current carry is a G20, but I do like the 30 when I'm wearing just a t-shirt with no coat or sweater.

I got another email from Midway, I guess they're going take it back now since it appears the part was defective. I'm just going to get my $ back and order a Lone Wolf guide rod.

Midway sucks ass!  Although, I've stopped buying from Brownell's due to their asinine shipping prices and poor customer service(that use to be top notch).

I got the Lone Wolf RSA in yesterday, took the G30 out today. ran 50 rounds of Underwood 45 super, plus my load development. I also ran 100 rounds of Perfectia 45acp to make sure it would still cycle with crappy ammo. LOL after shooting the super the regular acp feels like shooting a 22lr.

Here's a pic of the G30, Ive been thinking hard about getting a Glockkraft trigger for it.
