Picked up a generation 1 Glock 17 in great overall condition today.

Are there any parts that need to be replaced if I intend to shoot it quite a bit?

Might be worth sending it to Glock for a "refresh" and to make sure all the needed things have been updated.  I need to send in my Gen2 19 for the recall from many years ago.

I would recommend against that, as they would likely try to replace the entire frame.

Just shoot it.  Replace parts as they become an issue.

I've heard the black parts are problematic. Are these just recommended upgrades?

This will never be carried or used in any critical capacity.

If it stil has the black internals it might be worth some money to collectors.  Do a little research and look on Gunbroker for what they go for nowadays.  I've seen some Gen 1's that have sold for $700 plus.
