Can someone explain the different "generations" of Glocks to me?

I'm a diehard 1911 guy who just purchased a Glock 17.  I'm told it is 1st generation.

The price was a steal for an unfired pistol, and I really like it.

So what are the differnet generations of Glocks, and what does it mean????

I also see Glocks in OD green, but I cannot find them on the Glock website.  Which models come in OD green?

I need an owners manual for my Glock 17, I can call Glock on Monday, but is there any place I can download the manual?

I have a 1st gen G17 also. Serial prefix is "AZ" imported in '86

The basic difference is in the frames. Below is another pic of the three generations of frames.

And there are some other, more subtle differences (e.g. extractor that doubles as a loaded chamber indicator, slide finish, and there are prolly some others).

I'm not sure exactly how those differences correlate to Gen 1,2,2.5,3.

Anyone know when the slide finishes changed?  I know there are at least two variants (I have two) and I've read about a third.

Great info guys.

What about the OD green frames?

Is that an option on all of their pistols?  Their website only shows black gloscks.

Thanks!

It's doubtful if you actually have a Gen 1, but if you do it is worth something to collectors.

The Gen 2.5, not pictured, is a Gen 3 without the rail.

The OD frame is only available in Gen 3.

He could have a 1st gen 17.  They aren't all the hard to come by.  Now a 1st gen 19 would be a different story.
