I'm not a long time Glock guy so I am not familiar with all the finer details of the differences between the old vs new.
I have a Gen4 G40 and I'm also looking at a Gen3 G20SF at a local gunshop. I like the grip far better on the Gen3 SF. My question is, will the 6 inch slide from the Gen4 G40 fit on the Gen3 G20 frame? I had also thought of getting a 5 inch G20 slide to use on the G40 if I wanted too. All the slides I see for sale on GB say Gen2 or 3, will not work on Gen4. What are the differences and what would it take to swap them around if at all possible? I'd really like that Gen4 six inch slide on that G20SF Gen3 frame. Thanks. |

You can put a Gen 3 slide on a Gen 4 frame, but not vice versa. Russell92 is correct a Gen3 Slide will fit on a Gen4 Frame, but a Gen 4 Slide will not fit on a Gen3 Frame. I had both G17's and played around trying to swap stuff around. The Gen3 Slide on a Gen4 Frame will have a small gap at the bottom front due to the smaller recoil spring assembly. I sold my Gen4 G17 and kept my Gen3 I just don't see where the Gen4 is a big improvement over the Gen3 a lot of people are installing Gen3 Recoil assembly's with a adapter in Gen4's so the double recoil setup of the Gen4 is not a improvement. I have a Gen3 G21SF and wouldn't give it up for a Gen4 I hope this helps you. |
| Thanks for the info guys. After handling both Gen3's and Gen4's I think I like the feel of the 3's much better than my 4's. Not really a big fan of the backstraps. I have huge hands and the gun already has a big enough grip as is. Not sure now if I should get the Gen3 G20 or just get a spare 5" Gen3 slide to go on the G40. Something to think about. |

I took the finger grooves off and did an undercut and it feels great now. I just picked up the Gen3 G20SF tonight and that one feels smaller as is with no mods. I haven't measured the diameter of the handle vs the Gen4 but it certainly feels smaller. It has nothing to do with the texture bewteen the two or the mag releases. I will be doing an undercut though. Not sure on stippling or leave as is. I stippled the G40 because of removing the fingergrooves. I have pics posted of it in another thread. On the Gen3 I'll do the undercut and then decide if I'll leave it as is. |
