Recently picked up a new Gen3 G19. Second Glock. First was a 23 many years ago...sold it after a couple years.
Anyway, ordered a couple factory Gen4 mags from CDNN. My understanding is that Gen4 mags are GTG for all previous gen's. But, Gen4 guns require the Gen4 mags due to the ambi mag release. New mags are different in a couple ways....cut on both sides (obviously), do not say 'AUSTRIA' on them, do not have the small cut-out on the upper front face of the tube exposing a bit of the metal and when inserted in the pistol they seat okay and 'click' in, but not quite as 'loudly'. Also, while skimming around on GB, noticed what appear to be Gen4 mags (with new G4 guns) that have 'AUSTRIA' on them and they do have the small square cut-out on the front exposing the metal tube, and the side cuts for the catch appear to be cut all the way through, exposing the metal tube as well. Haven’t used the new mags yet and have no real concern about function. Differences are just G3 vs. G4? Are there differences in USA vs. AUSTRIA manufacture? Doubtful that I'll be losing sleep over this, but I'm definitely curious. Haven’t used the new mags yet and have no real concern about function. |

You only need Gen4 mags for Gen4 pistols that have the mag release reversed for left handed use. Otherwise all other mags function normally in all generations.
Yes Glock has difference revision followers and minor changes but essentially they all function the same unless you have Gen4 with the mag release lefty-ed. I run old 17 mags from my G17.2 in my G19.4 no issues. |

Gen 3 mags will work just fine in a Gen 4 gun as long as you don't swap the mag release to the other side the gun. I have a chit ton of Gen 4 mags than run 100% in my gen 3's and 4's. |

Thanks guys. Really wasn't concerned about function, but good to hear the reinforcement on that. Mostly curious about the apparent minor differences/revisions I described. Still have a question though....if mags do not have AUSTRIA on them, are they USA made? I see guns with ether USA or AUSTRIA on them. How long has GLOCK manufactured in the USA? (sorry...catching up on my GLOCK knowledge) Glock is constantly making revisions to mags with different followers, slight differences in the mag body, etc etc..... On the USA vs Austria not sure on that one it could be USA or they no longer distinguish. I know the old plastic mags before they did metal liners they were not marked in that way. |

Just a couple more questions..... Are mags, like the pistols, produced in both AUSTRIA and USA? Do GLOCK guys care one way or the other if they have a USA or AUSTRIA gun? Not sure about the mag production location. I'm sure someone far smarter than I am will be here shortly to answer that question. I do not care if my Glock says Austria or USA. If I was going to buy an entire set of them, maybe. But since I'm cherry picking the ones I want, it doesn't really matter to me. |
