Im finding it hard to deal with waiting for the G40 MOS to ship. I am not normally a Glock fan, and hated my issued G22 Gen 3. I do like the Gen 4 G22 just didnt like the grip size of the Gen 3. Here is what I want, but have read so many good and bad points of interest.
G20 Gen 4 or maybe Gen 3 SF. Long slide (6"), 3 barrels (stock 6", 6.5" threaded, 9" extended). I would like a scope mount for a red dot, hws, or 2x. Since Im sure some will point out here the obvious about the why of what I want. Simple, its what I want. I want the long slide look, the long sight radius, the longer range, and more. I understand that if I add optics then sight radius will not matter, but I want to be able to use it without til I can afford to get the optics I want (RMR). This pistol will be daily carry at work, range use, and hunting hog & deer. Gen 3 grips seem a bit large, then again the Gen 4 isnt tons better. I see from Lone Wolf that their barrels will work in a Gen 4. The Longer slides will work however will not look right on the dust cover end of the slide due to the gap and require a Gen 3 guide rod. Has anyone got any pictures of their Gen 4, or SF with long slide? Also wanted to know if any custom work like trimming the frame of the Gen 3, Gen 4, or SF to make the grip smaller. Pictures would be awesome. |

I may be getting old but not sure what "tag" means.
When I get to work will pick the brains of the fellow co-workers who carry and use glocks. I will also check with the Boss to see when we will have a G40 in stock. I guess I could shop for a used Gen 3 and just chop down the frame myself, just hate to do this without seeing other G20 Gen 3 that are setup about like what Im looking to do. I know others have done it just want that final push to get me over the edge. |

Well, I own a G20 and a G41. Assuming the 40 will be similar in size to the 41, I can wait. I love the beavertail backstrap of the Gen4. No amount of chopping/stippling/shaving of a gen3 frame could replicate that, and I also prefer the thinner slide. My 41 fits in my 9mm holsters. |

Should I just start with a 41 and get a 10mm barrel? I will look on a few sites like lonewolf and see if they have a 9mm conversion barrel for the 41 or if I just need to use their slide and barrel combo. Far as I can tell looking at a 41 and a 20 today at work the barrel opening seems to be the same size, just that the 20 barrel has more meat. Right now we have a 20 SF, 21, and 41 on the shelf (and many others) so those are what I was comparing. I like the idea of a thinner and not so long grip which is why I am considering grinding away at the frame and filling the back strap area to make up for what holes I make.
Glocks do not seem to have a ton of material around the mag well, and a decent amount in back. If I chop away at that hollow space behind the mag well and reshape it with JB Weld or another strong epoxy and shape it to suit my hands it may be good enough. I just want to buy the correct starting point but like the idea of later adding a RMR or like site on the slide. Otherwise Im going to do an under rail adapter that places the optics on the frame not slide. |

For my input, I spent a ton of money on a reliableish Lone Wolf longslide. The extra sight radius doesn't seem to help me much. If I could go back I wouldve bought a G20, put a 6" barrel in it and micro red dotted it. Right now considering a 4.6" barrel for my G29 with a micro red dot. |

I would like to thin down the backstrap since all of the big frame glocks tend to feel a bit long to me. Im just trying to rationalize whether its going to be worth waiting on the G40 MOS to hit 3point5 so I can buy it there.
Next issue to tackle is running the Octane 45 on it. If I use a G40 MOS with a Lone Wolf 6.56" threaded barrel, I assume I will get a 30-75 fps gain due to the length or more. I know the 9" can get from 100 to 150+ gains in velocity so running silenced may be pointless if it still gets supersonic. I have looked at using the Glaser PowR Ball which on the box says 1400+ fps (1440 I think it was) and 588 ft lbs energy. Would that increased barrel length take it above 1500 fps? In the 9" I assume it would be closer to 1600 fps. We have our branded ammo at work thats 180 grn TMJ and has an average velocity of 1000 fps, so that should be ok for general use but not hunting. Is there any JHP that would still be subsonic with a 6.56" barrel on a long slide 10mm? I honestly think that using the G40 MOS with the silencer may not be a great idea unless good ammo can be found, so would I just be better off finding and hacking up a G20SF for now? |
