I opened my gun safe today and reached for my Gen 2 model 19.  When I saw it, my heart skipped a beat.  The pictures show what I found.

I don’t have a clue how it could have happened other than I didn’t have magazine in it and a heavier gun might have been on it, although I’m not in the habit of tossing handguns into the safe.

I need suggestions as to how to proceed with altering the grip or whatever I have to do to get rid of this cut.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I'd put a small magwell on there.  I don't think Glock has the ability to replace it with another Gen 2 frame.

That sucks but Id run it as is.

I guess if your really concerned about the looks, find the little piece and glue it back on.

Yeah, I'm looking in the safe for it, of course the inside is black.

The magwell sounds good, I've no experience using them, is there a preferred brand or are they all pretty much the same?

I would smooth it out so it does not catch on anything when you draw it. I would look at it as character.  I had the same thing happen to my EDC not too long ago.

I would epoxy the chip then sand it smooth.Maybe find some epoxy in black?

I've had a ZEV but prefer the Dawson Ice.  Both of those are pretty large though, not really designed for an EDC.  There are a lot of options out there, I'd look for a small one that covers the chip.

Another thing that plays into the scenario is that my 2nd Gen is one of the earlier ones which has the semicircular cut out in the front of the grip to extract non free dropping magazines.

I think I'm going to have a hard time finding a magwell that covers that and isn't huge.

Would you say the polymer on that gen2 is getting brittle, how does it feel to the touch? I'm not saying it's become brittle, i'm aware there are thousands of gen2 Glocks out there running perfectly fine, I'm just curious as to what happened here. Never seen a Glock break like that, on that particular spot before.

Under a magnifying glass I can see some little "fleabites" developing on the other side of the grip at the bottom, and when tapped has a different sound than my Gen3 model 22.  The polymer is also thinner than the 22 at the bottom of the grip

Beyond that I'm at a loss how to check for it's being brittle.

Put it next to my 34... it looks to be in showroom condition by comparison.

Do you use that thing as a door breecher?

Okay now I feel like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill.

A grip reduction is going to put my little finger off the grip.

I'm
thinking that a small aluminum magwell will cover it, now the question
becomes can I remove the front of the magwell so it doesn't end up
partially covering the cut-out in the front of the grip.

Would three sides be enough to hold
on with maybe a spot or two of superglue.

I've seen (and owned myself) quite a few race guns that looked like that, I would consider that kind of stress normal for a competition gun. The OP gun actually looks like a bit chipped off. Its just weird.

I can't find the thread (may have been on another site) about a guy with a similar issue. He bought an extra magazine release ($5 part) and used a soldering iron or wood burning tool to melt the new slide release and slowly deposit the material back on the frame. If you're talented, I don't think it would be that hard to pull off.

FWIW, I did a bunch of plastic repair at a previous job. If you do find the piece I think you would be better off re-creating the piece with some sort of epoxy product vs. trying to glue it back on.
