In advantages to the 20?
Longer sight radius. Is it mechanically any more accurate with the bbl being supported farther out. What else? |

I have a 6" 10mm slide, it is a very easy gun to shoot- low recoil
I don't think the 40 will be 6" Quoted:
Ok, but a 20 with a 6" bbl? Basically why should a guy trade in a 20 for a 40? Quoted:

An extra 50fps is a good thing, and I love my Gen4 Glock 34. Ok, but a 20 with a 6" bbl? Basically why should a guy trade in a 20 for a 40? |

Some advantages to be gained were mentioned already. Why trade up? For some the extra length could make it legal for hunting. Some might enjoy holster compatibility with their other Glocks because of the slimmer slide. It really just depends on what floats your boat. Some will buy it just because it looks cool. I've had my custom G20L, 6" longslide Glock for over 10 years now and besides the 28% longer sight radius, 4¾oz extra muzzle weight (better balance and much less flip), the real difference for the 10mm is in the velocity increase. As the 10mm is in effect a 'magnum' version of the 40s&w and can take a higher charge of slow magnum powers like Power Pistol, it really comes alive with a 6" barrel. My hot 165grn 10mm loads in my G20L clock at well over 1,550fps and above 900ft/lbs of ME. There ain't no way my G22 can produce anything close to those velocities as a 165grn near 1,200fps velocity is a really hot load in mine. As my custom Glock started out as a longslide 45acp with a Jarvis 6" blue steel barrel and I asked Kevin at KKM Precision to develop the 45-10MM conversion barrel I use to make it a G20L, I've recently started playing around with the 45 caliber world. I picked up some 45 Super brass and using my Power Pistol powder, loaded up some 200grn 45 bullets with 10.0, 10.2, and 10.4grn of powder and LPM primers (conservative full power loads). With simply a 24# recoil spring and my chrono I tried them at the range and once again the combination of the long barrel and magnum powder produced some great velocities. At 1,307fps, these aren't anywhere near the max potential of the 45 Super as some shooters are loading 265grn hunting loads at faster velocities but the performance is nice. |

To me the only real advantage is velocity, and they look cool. I don't find the longer sight radius to make it any more or less easy to shoot though. I have a 6" barrel in my G35 and can run 135's over 1800 fps, 155's to 1600 fps, 180's to 1400 fps and 200's to 1300 fps. So yes added barrel length does help, and that's from a .40 S&W. I guess in terms of the 10mm, like anything else you would gain some velocity but it's not really needed. |

Longer sight radius. Less recoil. More velocity. Faster follow ups. More coolness. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a316/robertlee3rd/A08E6E7C-3757-431A-A5C2-D4DDFC6DF22B.jpg Did the slide come all milled down where the recoil spring guide is? Or was that a custom touch. Looks bad ass |

I'd like to see someone do a pressure check on your loads because you're claimed velocities are what I get in my hot 10mm loads out of my 6" G20L. |

Will the G40 have the slimmer slide like the G41? Or will it be the same width as the G20?
I'm kind of surprised they named one the Glock 40. Some people might get it confused with a Glock .40 (aka, 22, 23, 27). I wouldn't put it past some people who work at gun stores to screw that up... |
