My wife and I slept through a burglary of our apt. Seems that the criminal came in (our front door was probably unlocked), immediately saw my car keys, wallet and phone on the computer desk, and took my wife's purse and left, taking my car as well. My Glock was not far from me in bed, and I didn't even wake up or here anything. |
either that or the fact that he would have been consumed in legal issues? |

Glad you and the wife are ok. A dog is a good idea if allowed where you live. No need for a trained attack dog, go to the shelter and get a medium size mutt. Get your wife some pepper spray and they make little alarms for travellers that just hang on the door knob and go off if the handle gets rattled, enough to give you and the wife a warning. Also make sure that you have a phone in the bedroom so that the wife can call for help with out going up front. Also keeping extra guns at a family members house is a good idea, I did the same when I was in a apt. and my truck was stolen with some gun related material in it, I fiqured they might come to the apt when they relised I had guns. Oh yeah and lock your doors at all times. |

Glad you are OK! Sorry for your loss. There's nothing like getting robbed to change your outlooko n life. If a safe for the gun is out of the question, due to cost or not wanting to move the damn thing every time you get a new apt. you can pick up one of those steel security cabinets from Stackon. I've got the two door version and paid about 150 bucks for it. Then bolt it to the wall and to the floor from inside the case. It comes with smaller self tapping screws for that purpose, but you can get larger bolts for only a couple of bucks. Then, I filled the bottom shelf of the narrow "handgun" side with about 300 pounds of lead shot. I reload shotgun shells so it wasn't unreasonable to have that much shot on hand. It's not as good as a safe, but would really slow someone down. If it's not bolted and weighted down, it's nothing more than a carrying case for the bad guy to take all of your stuff. I keep expensive electronics, jewelry and the like inside it too. Of course my Rottie helps prevent property loss as well. Of course by the time you buy all that, you're approaching the cost of a small safe. Locking the door is a good start. And a dog is a good idea too. The issues involved in offing a burglar, especially since your door wasn't locked probably would have consumed your last semester. I dog is a lot of work, but much easier than dealing with the consequences of putting a bad guy down. I'm in grad school myself and can't imagine having to deal with all of that. Also, knowing the anti-gun mentality of most universities, they'd likely dismiss you as well. |
Thats crazy, I missed an opportunity to use my M4, M9 and M134 Minigun today. The move ammo by slingload mission got pushed back. Lord knows what death and destruction I might have been able to rain down on the commie pinko bastards. Always a bridemaid, never a bride.....................

what's up man. Yeah, I tried to look for you on the Texas forum but couldn't. We'll have to meet up for a shoot one weekend again. I live near Willowbrook, if that means anything. |
definately, as soon as we get a house. thanks for all the helpful tips. Time warner is about to install a security system, I hope it's worth it. Also, my wife out of the blue said she thinks it's time she finally learned how to use a gun. That gives me some hope. -mark |

I feel sorry for your problems there, but a dog would be a great addition to yout household. If you slept thru someone entering your house, what could have happened if he found you before you have fully awakened? I think you should also have a talk with your wife! She should get with the program ." She doesn't want to go near my guns and refuses to learn how to use them." How bout learning the basics? Unload & make safe? She doesn't have to like them or want to use them but if there are firearms in the household, she needs to take some responsibility for the sake of everyones safety. |
I had a talk with her yesterday and she finally agreed, but she wants something smaller than my G17. So I'll try to see if I can find something small, cheap and deadly at this weekend's gunshow. any suggestions?? |
thanks for the recommendation, but I think another glock is out of the question for us right now. Especially since it's something she would shoot maybe a few times or once a year. I saw a beretta tomcat 32 acp, something like that, but $350 was still too much to me. Is there any small decent carry/conceal gun I can get used for maybe less than $200? Something that's at least 25 acp caliber size. |
Buy her some pepper spray |
| Not that I'll ever discourage someone from buying a new gun. But it seems that this is money best spent on, or saved for a safe. Or a dog. If she's not going to shoot it often, and if she won't carry it, why not just have her shoot the Glock 17? Recoil from a 9mm Glock is nothing. JMHO. |
yes, I'm going to get a large gun safe for my graduation present from her |
damn i live on the other end of 249 by 45.![]() i have a 27, though it kicks a little more she could see if it fits her. this is my carry peice. my friends wife carries a keltec .380. very small and i think it was around $200-300, its a lil snappy though but does the job. i went with my friend and his wife to look for her ccw so i got to handle a lot of pocket guns and have to say the one that i liked most was a naa .380 nice solid pistol. it was all metal not plastic or whatever, dont know how it shoots though but i did read an article about it in a few magazines compared to the keltec. both had their pros and cons. i would try and look for something in .380 seems like a nice round. im going to try and make it out to carters sunday, hopefully. |
Who said all black people are like that? I happen to know some very fine people who are good friends of mine and they are various colors shapes and sizes. I livin Utah and refer to drunk cowboys causing trouble all the time as well as stupid white sepremos from Idaho and I do not consider all whites trash. They are white and I am white. A description is a description. Don't wear a chip on your shoulder. |

LOCK YOUR DOORS! I purchased a sentry safe from walmart. It has a dial lock on it and I belive it is to heavy for one person to life and carry it out of the house. This gets me thinking. I always have my bedroom door shut and locked and keep my glock 26 close by. I hope I hear a break in. They'd have to either pick my lock (unlikely) or break a window or the door down though. |
