Just ordered one for defense against a black bear that I had appear on my game cam.

Looking at ordering the Buffalo Bore 220grain Hardcast Bullets for it.

Should I change the recoil spring to a 22lb spring to deal with any early unlocking?

Anyone else using them for bear defense?

I have a heavy spring in mine, but my friend's is stock, and he shoots Underwood and my hot hand loads without issue.

Mine is reliable shooting Underwood with the stock spring, but the slide slams to the rear very hard.  I put in a 20 lb Wolff spring and LWD guide rod, and I'm planning to try it this afternoon.

I have been shooting Underwoods hot stuff in my 20 and 29 with stock springs in both.  No issues.  Both are Gen 3 guns.
