| Who makes the best steel guide rod for a G17&G19? |
| Another classic case of replacing something that DOES work with a part that MIGHT. Leave the stock one unless you have some plan to work up super light loads for target work or something. Nearly every glock I have seen choke in my 20+ years experience with them is one with aftermarket "improvements" |
|
Most failures of Glocks I've seen have been guide rod related due to not being replaced at recommended intervals, and yes Im referring to the plastic peice failing. Certainly maintenance related and not the gun, but it is what it is.
That being said, I have no issue with someone wanting to change that part to steel, and I cant remember seeing a steel guide rod related failure. A steel rod will allow you more spring options, and ISMI springs are really nice |

But I use these. http://www.glockstore.com/custom-parts-amp-accessories/stainless-steel-competition-recoil-spring-for-glocks |

I've seen stock GSA go many, many thousands of rounds past the replacement interval. ~g |

I prefer Lone Wolf's Captured Stainless Steel guide rod and an ISMI flat wound recoil spring. I use them in my Glocks where I want a higher spring weight than the stock Glock spring weight. I only have one aftermarket guide rod, and this is it ^^^^ I have a heavier spring for my G20 and a lighter spring for my G34. I generally don't mess with them, though. |

I prefer SS uncaptured guide rods.
It makes spring changes quicker and easier, as I change spring weights on occasion due to suppressor use or the load I am running. That said, if you don't do any of the above, you don't really need it. I have broken a few factory rod/spring assemblies over the years, none of which caused the gun to malfunction. |
