I have an old Gen3 G30 that has served me well for going on 17 years.  It's a great gun and has served me well, but she's a fat girl, and I am thinking of trading her in on a Gen4 G19.  What do the masses think, should I or not?

Keeping both is not an option.

EDIT:  I am still toying with the idea, but it am leaning toward just keeping the G30, and saving my pennies until I get the G19.  I love my G30, I just want something lighter for concealed carry.  I do have G21SF that I will NEVER get rid of (unless I can get a deal on a G41!  LOL).  Now, if they would just make 9mm version of the G42, I would dump my Sig P938 in a second!!!

Thanks for all of the input!!!

Who can answer that?  It depends, what are your needs and desires for the gun?

I'd do it.

I've made the decision that if I'm shooting a .45 its in a 1911.

All else is a 9mm Glock.

I prefer 9mm over .45acp so this is an easy choice for me.

The overall size of the two are about the same - with the G30 a little bit fatter.

I'd probably do it because I like the Gen4 grip much better than the Gen3 - both in size & texture.

9mm ammo is cheaper, and the G19 can use all of the larger 9mm magazines - I have used a 32 round "Party stick" mag as my in car reload at times, and my belt mags where G17's with a +2 base plate.

To throw another curve at you, take a look at the Gen4 G30 - I just picked one up last week, and it's a keeper.

Good luck on your decision,
Bob S.

As mentioned above, depends on your purpose, competition, carry, home defense, or just simply want a change. IMO everyone should own a 19 or 17 regardless, then add from there. If your really strapped for cash I would do the trade. Cost would go down in terms of HP/FMJ or if you reload alot affordable.

However IF you can afford to keep the 30 and buy another, thats the best option nothing wrong with a collection, gl.

Sure, if you want. I had a G30 that spent a lot of time in the safe while I was attempting to wear out a G19 all the time. So I bought another G19.

This! I would feel naked without my G30 on my hip, or at least in my inventory. I've been carrying mine since the year they came out. I just don't know what it's like to be without mine, and really have no desire to find out. That said, I also have 2 G19 gen 3's, a G20, a G22, a G23, a G21 & a G27, all of which are useful tools in my tool box. Many of those have AA .22 conversions &/or 9mm conversion kits. I like a lot of utility in my tools.

I'd say keep the G30, then buy a G19 when you can afford it. Nothing like having a spare/backup.

G19 is the perfect handgun.

If you absolutely cannot have both, I'd go with the 19.  I'd have a hard time selling/trading a reliable gun that I was very familiar with, though.  That said, my 29 (I haven't owned a 30) is the only Glock I sold that I haven't replaced.  Seems like all of the rest of them managed to find their way back, but I don't care to own another 29 (nor a 30).  I found it too fat to conceal well and went back to 9mm and 40 guns for concealed carry.

Of the two, I would go with the 19.  I have Glocks in .45 and 9mm, the G19 is my favorite.

I have both and love both but 11 rounds of 45 in my G30s makes me feel more comfortable.

Keep your 30 and get the 19!  You'll regret getting rid of ANY Glock!

Tough call, they are both outstanding firearms!

Sell or trade the 30 for a slimmed 30s... And then find yourself a new Gen4 19.

You should probably stay with the 45. I read on the internet somewhere from experts that the 45 blows up planets.
