I was just looking at my G17 Gen 4 and realized that I had the no addition backstrap on it. I had thought it had a medium, but appearantlty I have been shooting and carrying my G17 and G19 with no backstrap. I tried the medium and large and both feel ok. Is there any guide or rule of thumb for hand size and backstrap size?
If it helps any I wear a large / X large gloves and am 6' 3". Thanks in advance for the help. |

I'm 5'8" and not particularly large in the hands, I really like not having the backstrap on my gen4 G34. I feel I can really crank down and get a solid grip.
I'm not aware so much of a general guide, I know the small backstrap is equivalent to the old 9mm frame size and the large backstrap is about like the large frames such as the G21. No backstrap is obviously smaller. I'd just try them all and see how it affects grip mechanics; trigger finger position, mag/slide release activation, just if it 'feels' right. It can be a subjective thing. |

I have large hands and found that the large backstrap with beavertail works best for me on G19. Ymmv The benefit of the lg strap for me is chiefly more surface area for my support hand heel of Palm to rest on without interfering an crowding my strong hand fingers wrapped around the front of the grip. |
| Thanks everyone for the help. Right now I have a Gen.4 19, 17, and 41. The G41 was the only one that came with the beavertail backstrap and am using the medium beavertail. Taking into consideration that the G41 grip is wider for the .45 ACP than the G19, 17 9mm, I am going to try using the large backstrap next time I go to the range. Now I need to find a place that sells the 19, 17 beavertail backstraps separate. |
