Took my G42 to the range today. mostly for a break in and ammo test. The gun was cleaned before shooting and not cleaned thru the test. It is a blue Label with a shot date of 23 March from the factory. It has the "old Style" slide lock.
Here are the results in the order shot. Note, all rounds were fired as quickly as I could stay on target, not doing an accuracy test, and I am not a great shot, but at 10 yards all rounds were pretty much in center of mass, about 8 inches. Magtech 50 rounds One failure to go in to battery on the second round of the second mag shot. All the rest, flawless. Monarch 38 rounds Several failures to go into battery, one stove pipe, couple of failures to lock back on the last round. Chambering the first round did not feel smooth. Winchester White Box 46 rounds flawless Hornady TAP 12 rounds several failures to go into battery one stove pipe. Did not like TAP at all. Hornady Critical Defense Flawless till a failure to lock back on the last round and it was a friend shooting the last mag. Overall, I like it, low recoil, fun and will be my pocket gun after some more break in rounds. All comments welcome. |

You note that it is a Blue Label but that doesn't have any bearing on performance does it? I thought they were just the same weapon discounted for LEOs? Also, you say it has the 'old style slide lock' ... have they modified that since your weapon was manufactured? Do all 42's have that style? Thanks for the review and info. |
| Yes, blue label is just the LEO thing. There was a slight modification to the slide lock on recent shipments, mine was in the transition period and has the old style. A pretty easy "dremell" mod. It is finicky on ammo, but that seems to improve greatly with break in time. |
| Just looked at the difference between Hornady TAP and Hornady Critical Defense. The bullet profile of TAP is much straighter than CD, without the slide, not a lot of clearance to the bullet from the slide lock, can explain some ammo problems. OK, did the dremell thing to make mine look like the new slide lock. |
