I'm sure this topic has been beat to hell and back...anyway my gen 3 23 is having feeding issues. I guess you could say its never really been that reliable since day 1. I bought it new. the bullet gets stuck right on the feed ramp . im using newer magazines, its not always on the last round, its just random through out the mag, I have about 2k rounds down the pipe, its had FTF issues here and there every once in awhile, but my last range trip, it did it 5 times. at this point its just starting to annoy the absolute fuck out of me, as its not reliable and wont trust it enough to be my carry gun anymore. I know for a fact that I am not limp wristing. it had the FTF when two of my other friends shot it as well. the gun itself is mostly stock other than a extended slide release, extended mag release, and a custom slide cover. that's it. I was using fiocchi 165 grain with the last range trip, but its done this with blazer brass 180 grain and with federal 180 grain. I clean the gun correctly every 200 rounds or so, its not over lubed. there is no tac light on it. what gives??

shouldn't it last longer than 2000 rounds?

I would assume so, but the first thing I change is spring and guide rod so have never put the OEM spring to the test. I have several if you need one.

Thanks for the insight I'll look into it

What is this "custom slide cover" you mention?

Gotcha. I was thinking maybe something adding weight to the slide but the back plate swap shouldn't be an issue. Did you have the same issue with the factory piece. Could the custom one be dragging or catching the frame and effecting the slides movement?

I have always had very reliable G23's. But they are both factory stock.

Just a thought...try a new mag release. Perhaps it isn't right and is letting the mags  not sit properly. Have you ever compared the feed ramp to other barrels just to see if there is any difference there?

what about the magazine follower?
I know that I fixed some issues by getting a slightly taller one (I switched from a 4 to a 5 IIRC).

Couple of things, first did you have issues with it prior to the plate being "upgraded"?

Second.... click the URL below, and find the step by step directions for testing guide rod spring assembly....

Follow this link for directions on how to check the GSA

If it passes this... it's probably not the spring (assuming it's stock and not after market of course).

I'd also double check the installation of the extractor depressor plunger assembly.... it's the little metal-spring-plastic bearing (looks like a plastic pin inserted into one end of the spring) located behind the slide cover plate you replaced.  The metal pin portion should contact the extractor (metal-to-metal), the plastic bearing should contact the plastic slide cover plate (plastic-to-plastic.... although in your case it is metal now).... I'd double check to make sure it is oriented correctly, doesn't sound like it is the problem... but worth checking.

If you are running factory loads, you can probably rule out ammo.

Mag springs/followers maybe but doubtful on a gun with only 2K thru it.

Keep us posted.

At work we issue model 23's and I'm one of the armorers that take care of them. Take off all after market parts, put it back to stock and try again.

Did you try the guide rod spring test outlined in the link I provided?

Bad magazine?  Have you noted which mag you were using when you experienced the malfunctions and tried multiple mags?
