Whats up all. I'm very close to getting my first pistol. Its definately going to be a G20. I've already got 4 regular capacity mags and 1k rounds of ammo from Georgia Arms. I do have a few questions however. I was out today looking in local gun shops. The worst price I found for a stock NIB G20 was $570 ( ), while the best was $535. I've been considering buying from TopGlock for $499, but considering that shipping is $19 and an FFL transfer will be around $20-25, do you think $535 is a good deal. Now, that doesn't include tax or night sights, which I'm definately going to get (does anyone know the tax on guns in AR?). While I was at one gun shop I also got a look at some Ameriglo Smooth Ramp night sights. What do ya'll think of them? They looked ok to me, even though they were still in the package. I've been thinking of some Trijicon Novak style sights, but these look to be about the same. Plus, they will install them for me if I get a stock pistol from them. They were $85, which I guess is a good price, considering TopGlock is $80. Thanks for any advice anyone might be able to give. |

i would try to order on-line--no tax (if out of state) i would think that AR's gun tax is the same as the tax you pay for anything else (i think that its 6%) either way, if you get it online, you can get your nite sites and pay roughly the same price if not less than the local price--h/w, $535 is not a bad price |

My only recommendation is that you should buy local if it is a store that you frequent on a regular basis. I have found the relationships that I have forged at the stores to be well worth the extra money I have paid them over the years. When I have a problem 90% of the time I get it resolved in the store rather than send it to the gunsmith. One time when I had to send a used gun I purchased to the smith the store even covered the charge to make it right for me. How many times will an online broker send you pistol in for a new trigger and safety without charging you for it? Over the years I have learned that I get what I pay for. If I shop for the cheapest price I can get the gun at the cheapest price possible, but I will not get the service and support that I get from paying the extra $20 to my local guys. SBG |

I doubt that I'll ever buy a new Glock again...just too many great deals available through private sales on excellent slightly-used Glocks. The used Glocks that I've bought have all been as pristine as the day they came off the line. I can't tell the difference in the looks or performance of my Glocks that I've bought new or used. At least as far as Glocks are concerned, I have absolutely no motivation to buy from a local or other gun dealer. I can't imagine anything that I'd ever need to have done to a Glock that I couldn't figure out, especially with the free services available from Glock/Smyrna. I don't currently own anything in 10mm, but will probably buy a conversion barrel for my G21 from KKM, if that conversion proves to be reliable. |
well said! $535 is a good price. get trijicons. |

Can't advise on purchase price, but I think it's a nice piece. My experience with the 20 is elsewhere on the board, so I won't repeat it. Once you've had a chance to wring it out and restore your checking account a bit, I think a 6" barrel is a nice thing to get if you really want to get the horsepower out of the 10mm. The 10 has quite a bit of powder capacity (especially if you're using the lighter bullets) and can make good use of the extra inch. None of that is necessary if you are using it strictly for defensive purposes, of course, and the extra tube poking out disturbs some peoples aesthetic tastes. However, for longer range plinking or for hunting, it's a must. |
