Found a first Gen Glock 17 on facebook.  Looks ok in the pics.  No box, Gen 3 17 round mag.

He wants $420.  Go or NoGo?

I know, pics.....

There are only so many first gens out there.  I paid $399 for mine when I could have bought a new blue label for $398.

Unless there is some reason you particularly want or are drawn to a first gen, I don't find anything particularly special about the early gens and IMO, the gen 4s are a big improvement over the early gens.

That being said, I sold my first gen G17 for close to $400 a couple years ago.

It's probably a $400 gun, but if I wanted it $20 wouldn't stop me from buying it.

Facebook?  Sketch.

Are you wanting a Gen 1 for a specific reason (i.e. collecting?).  Otherwise the Gen 3 and Gen 4 are better guns all told.

A gen-1 is usually sought after by collectors. If you have that in mind there are several things to look for.

Is it a low serial numbered gun? Does the serial number have two characters and three numbers. The lower the letters and numbers the better.
The barrel should have several markings. Serial number, pentagon symbol, Glock logo, date code, proof mark and eagle.
The frame should have a matching serial number, proof mark and eagle.
Take it apart if you can and see if the internal parts are black. If they are it has not had the six part upgrade which adds to the collector status.
Is there a box with 17 individual bullet holders? Is there a label on the box with numbers that match the gun?
Are there two "U" shaped magazines included? Is the cleaning rod, brush and manual with it?

Those are the things that the early Glock collectors look for. If you want it just for a carry gun or shooter, that's good too. You can still send it back to Glock and they will upgrade it for free. You may have to pay shipping though.

The price you quoted is not a bad price.

NO serial number plate on the frame?!?!  NOT GOOD!  Possible felony.

It should be on the underside of the frame. With that serial number prefix, the plate will probably be black and may be hard to see.
