| I am fairly new to Glocks, and am feeling the sickness sinking in. Great, like I needed another habit! Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what the expected barrel life would be on my 17 and 19? Are replacement barrels a lot better? These shoot really well, and I am surprised at the accuracy that they are capable of. Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. |
| I could be wrong but I don't think Taylor ever changed his barrel: Glock 17 Torture Test |

A buddy of mine had his factory Glock barrel replaced for free at 175,000 rounds. He replaced the extractor 8 times and the firing pin 4 times. His 19 is still going strong. He spent a lot of money on ammo but can out shoot most any of us.
ETA: he shot mostly steel cased ammo. |

| Your Glock factory barrel is more accurate than you are. IMHO you don't need to spend the $$ on an aftermarket barrel. Spend it on a better set of sights if you are feeling the itch for upgrading your combat tupperware a little. Like other posters have said, you don't see too many Glock barrels that get "shot out" so don't even worry about it. Congrats and welcome to the club. |

He has been a Glock dealer for a very long time. He has sold a lot of Glocks over the years. I don't think that is SOP. |

I've personally shot 90.000 rounds over a two and a half year period through my G17S. Barrel was still factory accuratte. Did change, extractors, spring loaded bearing, firing pin, firing pin safety spring, recoil spring but barrel wise, it was fine. What is a 17s? |

Sounds like a lot, but depending on how the firearm is being used... it's probably realistic. Just in normal practice I consume about 500 rnds a week, sometimes more if I'm preparing for a match. It sounds like a lot, but it's really not difficult to do, especially if you are reloading (and have access to a range). I probably shoot 2K+ of reloads per month, for about the same price one would pay for a case of 9mm at the current going rate. It adds up pretty quick. ~g |

That's a pricey proposition! I've got a stash of +p ranger ammo, other than function check.... and maybe one or two local matches (they always give me crap about it).... it stays stored and untouched. Oddly I purchased two thousand rounds for slightly over what a 1000rnd case is going for now. Ahhhhh the good old days. ~g |
