Came into a few g17 preban mags (two for sure, maybe two others but not 100% sure) and wondered what states people need them in order to have Hi-cap?
Colorado, California , Massachusetts, Illinois, Connecticut ? Looking for info on what maybe needed in order to send it to a ban state without getting in trouble. Massachusetts buyer needs a permit to have pre ban hi caps, I think. Ny used to allow them but with the new SAFE act I was told No-go. Thanks in advance. |

An EXTREMELY timely thread; I picked up a perfectly serviceable preban G17 mag this morning in trade and was wondering the very same thing.
I checked it out in the permanent "Glock Information" thread and it is identical to the #3 mag pictured. I don't require a pre-ban mag here in NC, Thank God, but I'm sure some of our AR15.com brethren in MA could use one. Hmmmm.... |

MA does NOT require a permit to purchase, sell, or possess pre-ban mags...that is why we need them here....<><....:( That's kinda why I was asking. When I go over to gun broker and read the preban mags they specifically ask for a current copy of the purchasers LTC-A . " Legal in Massachusetts. If you are in Mass, I need a copy of your LTC-A. (You can cover up license number and picture- I just need to see address and expiration date. This is per Mass General Law." Could you possible explain? And holy cow they want a small fortune for those mags! Edit to add: According to wiki: Types of firearm licenses Restricted FID: Chemical Weapons only i.e.: mace or pepper spray. FID (Firearms Identification Card): Permits the purchase of rifles and shotguns with a capacity of no more than 10 rounds and their carrying for hunting and sporting purposes.[3] FIDs are "Shall issue", except if the applicant fails a background check. LTC-B: Allows the purchase of rifles, shotguns and handguns with a capacity of no more than 10 rounds , does not allow the holder to carry a firearm concealed, when transporting firearms it must be locked and inaccessible as well as separate from ammunition. There is a misconception that that the LTC-B is may-issue, but it is actually shall issue if requested or one is denied an LTC-A, provided one is not prohibited from possessing firearms. LTC-A: This license allows purchase any firearm legal in the state of Mass, are authorized to own firearms holding greater than 10 rounds assuming the magazine is "pre-ban" (Manufactured prior to September 13, 1994) post ban high-capacity magazines are not legal in MA with the exception of Law Enforcement. An LTC-A is the only permit that allows concealed carry in MA assuming it has not had any restrictions placed on it by the Chief of Police or issuing authority. |

Colorado's mag law says that any "hi-caps' you have before the Colorado State ban, you are allowed to keep. You can never transfer them though (unlike the old federal mag ban). Basically these mags are supposed to die with you. There is no legal way to transfer or trade a hi-cap mag with a Colorado resident. The Colorado law went into effect in July 2013. Any mags manufactured after that (i.e. PMAGS) should be dated to help them differentiate.
Of course it's inconvenient to the state law that Glock does not date their mags... |
