I purchased a used gen 4  Glock 21 here on the EE and just took it to the range for the first time. With every round fired the slide would lock open. Tried a different mag with the same result. The only way to release it was with the slide release, It wouldnt release using the slingshot method. Im new to glocks, any ideas??? thanks

Possibly the slide release was removed and not installed correctly and the slide release spring is not in the right position, I am saying this because you purchased a used pistol...the second is check your grip, you may be engaging the release and not knowing it.

Just my initial thoughts.

.............or, you may be hitting the slide lock with your thumb, slightly raising it up, locking the slide back.

Ask be how I know.............I was doing the opposite, on the last round in the mag, the slide wouldn't lock open. My thumb was pushing downward slightly on the slide lock/catch lever.

Oops.......I see the above poster also addressed this. I can read, but got so excited half way through I didn't finish....haha

Easy way to check if it is installed incorrectly. Remove the slide from the frame and look at the slide lock. Does it have a tendency to rise up rather than site on the frame? and is the spring tension holding it down?

The slide release could have been installed incorrectly or be broken!

Spring under the release is most likely broken

As said above, slide stop spring is broke, or incorrectly installed!
