| Just picked up gen 4 G23.Guy down the road from me is selling a mint FDE gen 3 27 with night sights, extended mag and slide release. Was contemplating a 27 or another 23.Would I be better getting the "baby Glock" to go with mine,or a "spare" 23?Also is there much of a difference in the 27's as far as gen 3/4?The gen 3 has two mags through it,he want's a gen 4. |
| My Glock 27 is annoyingly accurate and reliable. By that I mean that I am a Sig man. I did not want to like the Glock and bought it for an "I don't care about the finish" carry gun because I keep my Sigs looking good. For some reason I can shoot my Sigs until I'm fatigued and start missing. Then I pull out my 27 to cycle through the carry ammo and still hit the steel plates every shot. I cannot explain it. It never malfunctions, it is easy to shoot well, and seems to have a very tough finish. IMHO, it makes one heck of a carry gun. It will fail to feed with larger capacity mags, but X-Grip makes a nice adapter for 22/23 mags which fixes that. Buy with confidence. I can't speak about the differences between generations. |

G27 isn't for everyone (inexperienced shooter need not apply), it was my daily carry for about 8 years...
...traded it on a local forum for a G29, the guy kept it for 3 days and traded it... Why have two G23's (it's a Glock, no need for a spare), try something different. 26/27 make great CCW guns! ~g |
| I agree if you already have a 23 to pick up the 27 if you want it. I prefer the 23 and actually traded a Gen 3 27 for a Gen 1 23, because I hated it so much. I didn't like the small grip, and needed to get the floor plate and finger extension attachments to make it feel right in my hand. Going to the 23 gave me a longer grip, more rounds and felt just as comfortable concealed as the 27 did. With all that said, I would still pick up a 27 as an extra gun if I had a deal on my doorstep like you do. I wouldn't buy another 23, because the one I have never fails me. |
| 27 accurate and reliable? Yes pleasant to shoot? No I sold mine to get a 26. Found the 27 too snappy and rolled too much in my hand. Actually found a friends 29 more comfortable to shoot. I like the 26 much more. However if you have the 23 already having mag and ammo compatibility makes sense |

I've pocket carried a 27 for 3-4yrs now in a kydex holster to protect the trigger. It is a gen 3 (as is my G23 that I never carry). I don't care what happens to its finish--it's a carry gun. Finish is worn off in many areas but it refuses to rust. That many rounds of 40 in a package so small is comforting.
It gets carried a lot and shot very little--stays in its holster nearly 24-7. |

The 26/27/33 are great guns. They're easy to conceal and, with a little practice, easier to shoot than you'd expect.
I'd prefer a gen 4 over a gen 3 simply for the grip texture, but I wouldn't turn down a good deal on a gen 3. Most of mine are gen 3s and while I like the gen 4s better, I don't like them enough to lose money trading in my gen 3s. |

The first few times I tried the full sized mags there was no problems. I also carried a a G22 mag as back up for quite a while and am now glad that I never needed it. After buying the grip extension, I put many of rounds through it with no issues. |

Depends on the vintage of the G27 you're looking at, make sure it runs with larger mags before you depend on it. When Glock first came out with the G26/G27, a bunch of the guys at the PD I worked for at the time bought G27s as backups for their larger .40 Glocks. I'd consider this first hand experience, since I was the firearms instructor and saw it first hand several times. Fully half of them would not feed reliably with longer mags. It seemed that there was enough play in the mag well that, when their pinky rested on the linger mag, it pivoted the mag forward and down just enough that they got reasonably consistent failures to feed. The round being fed would run into the bottom of the feed ramp and not feed. No one had mag sleeves since they were feeding the guns from their duty mag pouches with longer mags for their duty guns, so I don't know if that would have changed things. Newer guns coming through the PD I currently work for (and am head firearms instructor at) seem to run very well with longer mags.
The G27 should also conceal much better than your G23. The grip is the same width as but is quite a bit shorter than the G23 and grip length/width is most of the problem when concealing a gun. I have a G17, G19 and G26. For me, the G26 conceals MUCH better than the G19 because of the length of the butt (I don't have any grip extenders or anything else on the G26). If you put a grip extender on the G27 mag, then it is true that you might as well carry a G23, since the extender makes the G27 as long as the G23 but doesn't add any of the other advantages- longer slide/sight radius for easier aiming and more capacity due to the longer butt. I don't understand all the hate for the G27. Granted, when they first came out, I shot a few of the ones the guys had and really didn't care for them. VERY abrupt recoil; not uncontrollable, but very obnoxious. Since we just got issued Gen4 G22s at my PD last year, I am considering one to replace my old and proven G26 and shot a couple of them last year during qualifications. I don't know if Glock changed something, or if it was just that I was keeping an open mind this time, but the couple I shot, shot VERY WELL! Very little of the obnoxious recoil I remembered and they felt very similar in recoil characteristics to my G26. A little more recoil, but only really noticeable if shot side-by-side with my G26. Since then, I've decided that I really want a thinner single stack in 9mm (since it will be taking completely different mags than my G22 anyway, I might as well get the extra round or two and lower recoil) that I can conceal better than a double stack 9mm or .40, something like a 9mm Shield or XDs. If I can't find one, I may still get a G27, we'll have to see what is available when I get the $$$ and am ready to spend. But, if you decide you want a G27, go for it, Glock seems to have gotten the few bugs out that they had and they work pretty well. Not to mention, parts and (hopefully) magazine compatibility with your existing guns, as well as pretty much exactly the same manual of arms. Bub75 |
| I wouldn't get a G27 except as a backup carry gun, since I prefer the "compact" size Glocks. I feel less well-armed with the subcompact because of the smaller magazine capacity, and I shoot better with my G19 than my G26. Also you can't put a light on the subcompact models, if that matters to you... |

To the OP: If you already have a G23, it makes great sense to get a G27!
The G27 is everything you could want in a carry gun (IMO) Of course, I USED to carry a G27 Gen3.....but swapped it out for a G26 Gen4. For me, the grip size change of the Gen4, as well as the larger mag release, sold me on Gen 4. I put many many rounds through my G27.....but never achieved the accuracy of control that I have with other handguns. The G26 (and 9mm) have everything that I want, and I"ll leave the 40S&W caliber for others.
