Ok, so I have two fairly new Glock Gen3s (a 17 and a 19) with serial #'s in "T" range that have been ejecting brass erratically. Just like we've all heard a million times, it throws consistently in one area for a while and then one lands on my head, or on my elbow etc... Before I get lectured for "limp wristing," let me add that I'm no noob to Glocks or to shooting; I always shoot thumbs forward with a firm grip and I was using decent FMJ ammunition (Am Eagle 115&147 gr and Rem UMC 115 gr) and a mixture of factory Gen3 and Gen4 mags. Since I had heard of this on the Gen4s, and had read about it in some Gen3s, I didn't panic when it happened. I just called Glock after a few outings to the range and where I paid VERY close attention to the fall of my brass (I had the ground marked up like a crime scene by the time I was done). So anyway, I called Glock and the tech service guy was...well, completely useless. He told me they wouldn't send me a new ejector and if I wanted help I had to mail the pistols in and they'd check if something was wrong. He then gave me the usual bit about "shooting techniques," poor quality magazines and bad ammo. So, what should I do if Glock is unwilling to help? It pisses me off to be honest. I am a HUGE Glock fan and won't let that be changed because of an unhelpful tech service guy, but...should I get an APEX ejector, Lone Wolf, etc? If anyone has had an issue with this that has since been fixed, what did you do?
P.S. Sorry for the novel-length description |

Replace the ejector with the part #30274 and replace the RSA with part #043. From what I've heard from others this has solved the issue. It's a fairly cheap part - you'll pay less for the part than you would to send it to Glock, and it's a breeze to install. It may be a good time to try out the Apex extractor while your at it too, although I think it's unnecessary.
...on second thought it may be worthwhile, but I'd see if the Glock OEM parts fixed it first. |
| Ok cool, thanks kingoftheroad and CTR, I found and ordered the gen 4 ejector and trigger housing from Lone Wolf. The part # they list is 30275, but apparently that's for trigger housing itself and the 30274 ejector comes installed. I sure hope it takes care of it. I think I'll wait on the RSA; if the ejector doesn't fix it I'll order the RSAs from Lone Wolf as well. They're located like 40 minutes from where I live, so shipping was dirt cheap. |

The shape of the frame on the gen 3 and gen 4 guns is different, so you can't put a gen 4 trigger housing in a gen 3 frame. The gen 4 recoil springs (the #'043) will also not work due to the different size hole in the front of the slide. Hmmm, ok, so if you can't put the whole Gen4 housing in, I'm assuming that you pull the ejector out of the Gen4 housing and put it in the old Gen3 housing? If people have been putting the 30274 ejector in their Gen3 Glocks there must be a way... I watched a video on youtube of a guy doing that, but it wasn't the best quality and I couldn't always see what he was doing. |

They are a tight fit, but they will come out. |

I switched to the new ejector and had some improvement. I then installed this new manufacture extractor and my ejection is now awsome. From what I understand, Glock had at some point switched to a cheaper MIM process on some parts.... like the extractor. They don't use it any more, but ALOT of guns went out with the crappy ones.

| I got the new ejectors in the mail on Saturday morning and put them in both guns right away. The process wasn't too bad (thank goodness for youtube) but I had a heck of time getting the G17's trigger housing pin out. It took some doing, but it finally gave. The G19's was a lot easier. I haven't been able to take them to the range yet, but I cycled about 15 rounds through each and they went into a neat little pile on the floor. So, preliminary results are good! Hopefully I'll make it to the range soon. I cringe at having to shoot them much with the way ammo is going right now...but that's life. I'll let you guys know when I do. Thanks to all for all your help! |
