I purchased a G39 last year from someone I know. He owned the pistol for two months and fired 67 rounds through the pistol. I have fired about 150 rounds with it. After the first 100 I started getting failures to extract and the pistol started acting up. I tried cleaning it, bought new mags including 38 mags, three different types of ammo.

When looking at it today I noticed that the finish on the front rail the slide rides on was peeling and showing the copper under the silver it also has a visible crack in the silver finish. Or the metal itself has cracked. Something doesn't look right at all. Any thought on this? I guess it's back to Glock.

My first attempt at photos didn't show it, I will try again.

At first I thought it was just the copper anti seize they throw on the guns...but it does look a bit suspicious.  Send the pics to Glock and see if they will take care of everything under warranty.

It for sure isn't anti seize. The silver finish has peeled off. The raised area catches your nail, just not sure if the silver finish is cracked or the metal itself.

Has anyone seen this before? Just a bump.

That's.... Interesting... Im wondering if its possible that either that rail or the slide is bent

Spoke to Glock this morning and was told it's normal wear. I'm calling bull shit on that as none of the others have anything remotely like this. I'm sending it in on my dime.

They asked me what ammo I was shooting and I told him. One box I have is Underwood, and he said those are very hot reloads that void the warranty. Awesome. I guess 30 rounds of underwood is too much for a G39.

I got the box with the pistol. I was unaware of them being reloads. A little after the fact research implies they like to load very hot. Sucks if the frame is damaged, I'm going to be out of pocket for a fair amount to fix this shit if the frame needs to be replaced. Not looking forward to a 4-6 wait standing in line to have my license fixed either.

As ugly as it looks, that is normal wear. For the longest time Glock used bare steel frame rails, but there were several instances of people not cleaning their guns often enough and those frame rails would rust. Glock decided to nickel plate them, obviously with a very cheap form of nickel plating. It's there mainly for people who buy the gun, put maybe a magazine through it, then never shoot it again. The nickel plating will of course wear off with use, but obviously it was done very poorly in some instances because it flakes off in as little as 50 rounds. It's a steel frame rail with a copper undercoat to help the nickel adhere, that's why you're seeing the copper color.

For the failures to extract, you may want to detail strip the gun and ensure all of the parts are there and that they're the correct parts considering that you bought it used. If all of the parts look correct, give it a thorough detail strip cleaning and see if that fixes the problem. If not, I'd try a replacement extractor. Glock's extractors within the past few years have widely varying specs and you may have gotten a bad one.
