| So long story short I am a 1911 guy looking into getting my first Glock. Last weekend I shot a friends Gen 3 and Gen 4 19, and liked the Gen3 better for some reason. Today at the LGS they a new Gen 3 17 and a Gen 3 19. Both are the same price, so what would you choose? 17 or 19?? |

Get the 19 first. And then get the 17.
It's not a question of if you'll be back to pick up a 17, it's a question of when. Quoted:
19 is very popular. 17 is a bit harder to carry. Kinda like a full size 1911 I like both guns. If you just want a range toy, check out a Glock 34 What is this nonsense calling a 34 a range toy?
I carry mine all the time. Conceals pretty well for how big it is. |

If you don't plan on CC, get the 17 if you like the 1911 grip. (they aren't similar, but the 17 is the closest) I am basing this on the fact that my 1911 is the most naturally aiming pistol I have shot and my favorite Glock is my 17. The 19 feels like a child's toy in my hand (and I can barely keep the 26 under control). The 17 is no 1911, but it at least fits my hand. Honestly, go to a range and try them out and decide for yourself. |
| I have a 19 I picked based on size for ccw, I think I made a mistake and I'm getting a 17 now. For me It is that the 19 tries to put three finger grooves in a smaller grip space and my hand is too big. I thought it would be ok but the 19 bothers me everytime I shoot it, fingers end up on the points instead of in the grooves. Even a 26 with an extension fits my hand better than the 19. Just something to consider if you have big hands. |

Well, without an answer about how you'll ever use it, then you decide! G19 most multi purpose if you only want one glock. G26/G17 makes a great combo or G19/G34 makes a great combo, you will end up with more you just dont know it yet. The parts commonality, functionality, and overall value can't be beat.
Or all of them (like most of us) |

I don't have the experience as most of these guys, I just own one glock (planning on 2nd soon), but really really focus on the grip. I have medium size man hands and the 17/22 fit like a GLOVE, the 19/23 are a bit tight and the pinky kinda edges off (doesn't hang off like a 26/27) and also the middle finger crushes the trigger guard more.
I know the 19/23 are the trendy picks and I can totally see the argument if you can only have ONE and need CC capability. But if you want a home defense / open carry I would definitely go 17 or 34 (more money and longer, same frame/mags) then you can get a 19 or 26 for CC depending on how small you need. I have a 22 and am debating about a 23 or 27 for CC as my 2nd one. I go back and forth, will probably end up with the 27. Then my third will likely be a 17 or a 34/35. I just see the 19/23's as the universal if you are limited, but if you will have a collection they are the most useless (gonna be controversial statement, I know). |

I always go against the grain on this, but the 19 tends to pinch my pinky, I prefer the 17, and a half inch of grip length doesn't make it that much harder to conceal. Now, if you can find a Gen 2 19, without that damn finger grooves, that thing feels perfect, you listening Gaston, WE HATE THE GROOVES!
Also, Glocks are awesome purely from a weight perspective, a 17 is 24 oz empty, the thing weighs less than two pounds fully loaded. That alone makes it more comfortable than any steel frame 1911 ever made. |

I went with the 19. Has a good size grip yet is just a bit smaller. I think it is darn near perfect. FDE. It called out to me right from counter. http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/ss144/BBoyd_photos/018-2.jpg It woulda called to me too. |

wow, i'm with you. I was just thinking if a 19/23 came without grooves I might like it. But for the record, he grooves on the 17/22 happen to align perfect with my hand........so I like those. Agreed. I prefer the Gen 2 if we're talking 19/23. I hate the finger grooves on those models because they just don't line up for me. But if it's a 17/22, the finger grooves are fine. |

I carry mine all the time. Conceals pretty well for how big it is. My EDC is a Glock 34. I have a 26, a pair of 17s, and the 34. I don't like the way the 19 feels in my hand, and the 17 fits perfectly. I reccommend the 19 all the time. I bought one for my girlfriend a few years back and she loved it. |
