Has anyone done this successfully? I went to the range this weekend and everywhere was out of 9mm and .45 so I'm considering the conversion just so that I can have some fun at the range.
EDT, BTW it is a G17 4Gen |

Advantage Arms makes a Gen 4 compliant model. It is different than the Gen 3 and earlier versions, so measure twice cut once if you order one.
I have a Tactical Solutions kit but I have no idea if it works with a Gen 4 frame or not (Gen 3 for me). I like that it locks back on an empty mag and that it has a steel slide so the weight differential is closer to the 9mm slide. The magazines protrude out the bottom of the frame, but that is not a big deal to me. The TacSol kit comes with allen wrenches and a small bottle of loctite. You need those things badly as you need to keep the internals tightly screwed together or you will have light rim strikes and eventually if the internals get loose enough a bitch of a time disassembling the slide off the frame. The extra weight of the TacSol kit may be a mixed bag when it comes to function. I only run CCI Minimags in mine and it functions fine (an occasional malf happens when it gets dirty). Whatever .22lr conversion kit you chose make sure you take with you some cleaning supplies to the range. I swab out the breech face and pull a bore snake through the barrel occasionally to keep things running properly. All .22lr pistols get filthy and you will want to shoot a couple hundred rounds in a session. I primarily use my TacSol kit to practice draw and fire exercises. It has helped my first round accuracy but I am still as slow as a tortoise out of the holster.

Don't buy a Ciener kit for a Glock as they normally are unreliable. I've been around numerous AA kits for Glocks and they all have been good. Some kits need more break in time and they become less ammo sensitive as they age. Thank you. That is good to know.

I shoot Remington 36 grain bulk HP Golden bullets in my AA kits but my older 17/22/31 kit will run close to 100% on Federal 36 grain HP bulk. I run my AA kits wet with CLP and make sure to lube the barrel and sliding ejector. I just recently tried frog lube which seems to work very well and cleans up easily.

Ciener has a reputation of being 'rather difficult' to do business with. Do a google search of Ciener and customer service, to see. The local PD know the location of his shop due to the number of times they've had to go there because of irate customers. He's been raided due to his business practices of taking $$$ and not delivering product have gotten him into a legal morass.

I just picked up a AA kit for my Glock 17 and shot 50 rounds of Remington GB 36g HP. I shot at 10 yards to sight it in and did not have to touch the rear sight. I shot a 2" ragged hole. As long as the AA proves to be reliable, I believe I just found my new favorite .22LR pistol. |

I have had my Target AA 17/22/31 kit for about 9 years and before I retired I'd shoot at least two bulk packs of Federal 36 grain ammo a month in my AA kit and my AR-22. I wore out a barrel on my DPMS AP-4 22 rifle but my AA kit is as good as new. I finally broke down and bought a Glock 17 frame for my AA kit. I shoot this pistol more than any other handgun. I can't remember how many people I have taught to shoot with that 17/22/31 kit. I have the same original three mags and have not replaced a single part in the kit.
People would say I was crazy but I figure I have easily shot 4000 rounds a year through that kit for about 9 years. How many other 22's can do that? |
