Looking to get into my first glock, its going to be an all around general use and carry piece. What do you experienced glock owners recommend? Glock 17 or Glock 19? Gen 3 or Gen 4? The caliber is already decided so please keep it to the caliber I selected. Thanks, an inquiring mind wants to know. |
| There is another thread where I compared the 23 to the 19 side by side for accuracy and recoil. While I do own several 21's and a 22, for a smaller carry piece the 19 won hands down. I really wanted to like the 23 so I could use all my .40 mags, but the 9mm was so soft shooting and quick I decided it was time to add 9mm to my collection as well. |
| G19 in the Gen 4 flavor is about as perfect as a gun can get IMHO. I purchased 2 this year and both have had zero issues. Any given person can buy a defective firearm, the failures that you read about with the 9mm Glocks are no where near as widespread as you might think. Buy a Gen4 G19 if you like the feel and size , it's the perfect balance to do many jobs. |

In theory, the G19 is the "do all" pistol because it's a bit smaller and carries better than the G19. I agree wth this being the best choice for most people however, you should still at least try handling them both and see what feels best for you. I prefer the larger grip of the G17 as I feel the G19 grip is a tad cramped.
Regarding Gen 3 vs gen 4, again, see which grip and texture feels best to you. Both are equally reliabe. |

Good idea, then go with the one you like the best.
But, if they handle the same for you, the 19 has the advantage of being smaller for carry while not really giving up much in the way of capacity. The G19 really is one of the best all around pistols out there! |
