Friend of mine has a Gen 1 G17 he wants to sell. He's the second owner and has put one magizine worth of rounds through it, previous owner less than 500 rounds. I'm not interested in the gun but he wants to sell it and for pretty cheap. I was thinking that it was worth a bit more than the $425 he wants for it so I thought I'd ask so I can let him know. I'd hate to see him undersell the thing if he can get a bit more out of it.

Here is a price point:  CDNN is currently selling Police trade in Glock 17s (GEN3) for $389.  Excellent condition.  Perhaps a GEN1 would be less?

Ok...I was just wondering because I wasn't sure if the Gen 1 were more desirable. I read some people say they'd take a Gen 1 or 2 over a Gen 3 or 4 anyday. I just thought perhaps there was something about it that might make it a little more valuable. Like I said, I just didn't want to see him undersell the gun if it was actually more valuable, but it seems his price is probably about right if not even a little high. Thanks.

There are guys that would pay his price and more. Depending on what it comes with, original internals or updated. I paid $500 for one with all the original internals and 2 original mags and original tupperware box. Hell the original pre ban mags can be worth up to $100 each. What letters does the serial number start with?

I'd say just because of how few rounds that have been through the gun it's all original. No idea on the numbers but I'll find out. Now I'm just kinda curious.

I don't have any but I'll see if I can get some if you want. My buddy knows guns and he described it and it is without the finger grooves according to him. Did the earliest Gen 2's not have grooves or is that a Gen 1 only thing?

Gen 2's have no finger grooves.

Saw an excellent condition Gen1 go for $400 at a local gun show not long ago.  I've been on the lookout for an unmolested Gen1 to add to my collection.  I offered the buyer $50 more than he'd just paid, to no avail.

I'd say a fair price is somewhere between $350 and $450, depending on condition.  Could be me, but there seems to be growing demand for older Glocks.

When I was shopping for mine, it seemed like a pristine Gen 1 with the early box (the one with holes for 17 rounds of ammo inside) and original internals brought a small premium, but a "shooter" Gen 1 is worth no more than a Gen 2.  I paid for $400 for mine (not a safe queen by any means) which was probably a little high, but I wanted it so I bought it anyway.

Those of us who really like our Glocks (a dozen or more ) must have at least one Gen 1 Glock 17. I paid $450 for my first one. The Gen 2's seem to be catching my eyes lately. Happy Hunting.

Bought my Gen 1 Glock 17 for right around $400 in the late 80s/early 90s.  Sold it a couple years ago for $350.
In trying to sell mine, my experience was that most people found the Gen 1s to be less desirable than the later generation Glocks.
