Hello all,
Just recently purchased a Gen4 G23. It has approx. 400 rounds down the pipe. Today, at my range, I was firing it and noticed that the slide lock was gone/missing. I noticed this while loading a magazine inbetween firing. I was able to find the slide lock spring, but not able to locate the slide lock itself (was searching in grass). The slide lock spring is bent, as far as I can tell from looking at various pictures from a google search. Is this issue something common with Gen4 23's? I own 5 other glocks, and I've never experienced this before. I'm going to order replacement parts and send glock an email, definitely a first for me though. Any thoughts and or comments? |

The slide lock has nothing to do with the trigger pin. If the slide lock spring breaks, the slide lock will come out of the pistol and it's possible that the slide will just come off forward. I once had an old style slide lock spring break in half. Never wore one else since they made them wide the whole length. |

Slide lock or slide stop? If it's the slide lock, how does your top end stay on the pistol? Slide lock. The slide wouldn't stay on the receiver, that's how I noticed it. The slide was forward of the receiver by about 1/4 of an inch, and I just slid it the rest of the way off. |

Was it installed backwards? That's the only way I can really see this happening..... ![]() Same, unless the spring broke. Did you buy it brand new? Did you recently field strip it? I'm not sure if it was installed backwards or not. I'll take a picture of the slide lock spring so you guys can see how it ended up. It was recently field stripped, but nothing was out of the normal when put back together. I should note, I shot 200 rounds yesterday, before the slide lock went UA. I bought it brand new about 2 months ago, and it's a blue label if that means anything. |

Wow, I think that someone did somehting funky to that. Most likely someone took it apart and then flubbed the reassembly. Had to have been the factory if that is the case. I bought it new, and I've never messed with the slide lock or spring on any Glock. |

Here are some pictures of the slide lock spring. From what I can tell by looking at other slide lock spring pictures, it's definitely bent. http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i427/ScrapMetal762/SL2.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i427/ScrapMetal762/SL1.jpg http://i1093.photobucket.com/albums/i427/ScrapMetal762/SL3.jpg crap. that sucks! i'd definitely call that in... best of luck to you man. |

It was sealed, I walked in and told them I wanted a Gen4 G23. Salesman walks into the back and brings a new box out, and I watched him open it up. If the slide lock spring was installed incorrectly from the factory, how the heck did it fire 400 rounds in the first place? That's what I don't get. I put 200 rounds through it the day after I got it, and another 200 yesterday. Emailed Glock yesterday, but as of now, no response yet. |

The early Gen4 G19 and G23 slide lock springs were too weak, which could result in the slide lock falling out of the gun, and the slide coming forward off the frame if the gun was dry-fired. They've redesigned the spring, and I only know of one place that sells it:
http://glockparts.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=296241&CAT=741 (this spring is specific to the Gen4 G19, G23, G32, and the G38 as well if they ever make a Gen4 version) |

I'll see what Glock has to say, and if they don't send me new parts I'll order from glockparts. |

The problem is that the GEN4's RSA monstrosity has been WECSOGed into these pistols which results in it depressing the slide lock spring causing it to fall out and/or the slide to fly off. This is not that uncommon, and Glock has made a proprietary GEN4 spring because of it. |
