I'm wondering what weight recoil spring are you guys running in your G34. I have a extra Lonewolf guide rod and usually reuse the factory spring but want to change it up a little on the G34.

Thanks,
Kirch

I shoot 147s at about 935fps out of my G34 for USPSA.... use an ISMI 17# spring with a hardened stainless uncaptured guide rod

Why bother with the steel rod if you're just going to reuse the factory spring?

I have used different weight springs in my 10mm, so I'm not against the practice entirely, but I don't understand it to use the same weight spring.

I shoot Atlanta Arms 147 grain 9mm and use a noncaptured 13lb ISMI recoil spring.

Shoots super flat. ^^^^

With 124gr minor loads I was using a 13lb ISMI spring. I used a old M&P guide rod so it was still a captured setup. It shot really flat.

the general concensus in comp  is a 13# spring . its whta i run in both my MP9 and G34 and have had no problems

I tried an uncaptured Wolff 14lb and a captured IMSI 13lb. Ended up sticking with the 13lb...not sure why.

FWIW, Dave Sevigny used a 14lb Wolff when he shot for Glock, but that might have just been a sponsorship thing.

whats the reasoning for going with lighter springs for competition use?  iirc, the OEM spring is 17#

for USPSA style practical shooting less muzzle flip is the objective...for a 9mm gun like the G34 and G17 I shoot, you can make the bottom  power factor of 125,000 (bullet weight in grains x velocity) with a 147grain bullet at just over 850fps....a little experimentation with springs, and you get a fast sight tracking pistol without much muzzle flip.... and many find the lighter springs track faster at the lower bullet velocities (target score minus penalties divided by time wins)... I'm an old fart, and like to run springs with heavier initial specifications, and let them take set at a lower rate... 147 bullets shoot considerably more accurately in both my pistols, and more reliably knock down steel

I must have done the math wrong, I might be able go down to 850 from 900, that would be badass.
