| Teh local fun shop has a Gen 1 Glock 17 at the shop. The gun has been sitting there for a while. The owner said I could have it for a grand total of $350 with three 17 round mags. It has no box or manual it is in roughly 80% and has been back to Glock in the last 3 years. I want a picture of one because I am not sure the slide is correct. It looks like it has been duracoated. The slide is very matte and it looks suspect to me. Is this a good deal? |

The slide should be "very matte". That's how they used to be. I don't know how well you can tell that, but here is my Gen 1 (LW threaded barrel in it but I do have the original barrel). Thanks, I was wondering. The guy said it was correct, I just don't trust anyone. |

The finish on older guns (1st Gen, 2nd Gen and some early 3rd Gen) is what appears to be a very dark/black parkerizing of some sort. It should be very dark and very dull, unless someone has soaked it in some sort of oil. Here are some pics of my 1st Gen G17. It's been worn and battered and the pics aren't the best, but you should get the idea. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn40/bub75/g172.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn40/bub75/g177.jpg Let us know if you get it and post pics. Bub75 I have to wait a week or so to pull the $$$ together. THe only difference I see in the one at the fun shop is the trigger is smooth and some idiot has colored in the lettering white. |

Elijah1, the trigger on a G17 should be smooth. This gun is old enough that it had to have the "6 part upgrade" in the early '90's. This consisted of changing out the trigger with trigger bar, firing pin, firing pin safety, firing pin safety spring, extractor and one other part that I can't remember. Supposedly, again IIRC, older Glocks without the upgrade could go full auto under some circumstances, I can't remember for sure. The old parts were black, the new parts are nickle/chrome plated. When the upgrade was done to this particular Glock, along with some others at the PD I work for, we got a mixed bag of smooth and serrated triggers for replacement parts, probably because Glock had a LOT of upgrade kits to ship out at that time (they were shipping upgrade kits for ALL 9mm Glocks up to a certain serial number) and they used whatever was available. Normally, a G17 should have a smooth trigger, unless someone switched out the trigger for some reason.
Regardless, since I forgot to post it above, check the innards of the gun you're looking at and make sure that the trigger bar, firing pin and firing pin safety are nickle/chrome. If they aren't, it's not a deal killer, just hook up with an armorer and they can get the upgrade kit free from Glock and install it for you. Bub75 |

Bub75 This gun was sent back to Glock for the "full auto" de-modification. It went full auto at a gun range in 1995. The owner of the gun is good friends of the gun shop owner. |

Good deal, one less thing to worry about. As I said, let us know and post pics if you get it. While I didn't understand the attraction at the time, after getting my 1st Gen G17, I now understand why everyone went ape over them when they first came out. Great guns, everything you need, nothing you don't. Not flashy, kinda plain and "blah", but reliable as the day is long. Bub75 |

I paid off the last of my knee surgery I had two months ago today... When I get my next pay check, she should be mine :) |

I paid off the last of my knee surgery I had two months ago today... When I get my next pay check, she should be mine :) And I understand that completely, too. The G17 I posted above popped up unexpectedly. The PD I work for was going to buy all of us brand new Gen4 G22s and the new Chief was gracious enough to let us buy the old guns for what we would have gotten for trade in value, mostly Berettas and this sole G17. The trade in for this G17 was only $200 because of the extreme finish wear. So, I went home and told my wife that I needed a check for $200. She flipped out, mainly because we were trying to save up for vacation, but relented in the end. But hey, how can you pass up a perfectly functional pistol, just about ANY pistol let alone a G17, for $200? I mean, come on now! Bub75 |

I have 15 Glocks in the safe, 3 loaded up stairs...and a 1st gen G17 just arrived at my FFL tonight. Now I need one more to make it an even 20...lol.
