I picked up my 22c yesterday. I shot her today. Well I'm posting about shooting a compensated glock like I said I would. Just like I thought I did not get any exhaust to the face .I tried a weaver stance pistol was maybe 18 in from my head still no blow by!The stories you hear will give you a faster second shot. But then the tell you not hd recomended because of gas to the face will blur your vision.Internet stories spread by people that don't own or have never shot one!Gas to the face is why Glock offers a compensated  version on their pistols.Yes it was accurate  and a faster second shot.I would love to get Lone Wolf  make me a factory  c  for my 34. I will give them  a call monday!

When you bring the pistol in close to your body like you would if you had ever trained for close quarters/retention real defensive work - that is when your get gas to your face- not when you are shooting weaver on a range.  The impact to vision comes when you shoot it at NIGHT with dark adjusted eyes.  I have seen both several hundred more times than your trip to the range and it is not an internet story.  I have seen it myself and seen it in other folks in training.

I'm glad you like your 22C, but let's not get carried away.  Also, since you report that it shortens your time to the second shot, how about some data?  How fast can you shoot a non comp model at 7 yards and get A zone hits (split times)?  How fast with the compensated model?  Report back to the class.

CSB

Now go shoot it in the dark or in retention.

Was issued a 22C for 2.5 years when I was (slightly) younger.

Yes, it was a little softer-shooting than an uncompensated model. Yes, there was less muzzle rise. Amazingly, despite being one of the possibly-problematic-with-light 3rd Gen models, it was over 99% with my issued light attached (Insight/Streamlight M3).

On the other hand, I did witness the "V" fireballs at a couple night shoots. And the soot blackened up the front sight pretty quickly. Finally, there's the retention-shooting issue. Unless you cant the pistol outboard (away from your body) a good 30 degrees or more, it feels like getting a slightly-pulled punch in the face. At least, that's what I thought the first time I tried it.

That said, mine was not new when it was issued to me, so the trigger was nice and clean (which was a big surprise to me, having disliked Glocks until I had been carrying that'n for a while), and almost everything was worn-in good and smooth.
On the whole, I liked it. Would have gladly bought it, given the chance, too. Then I would have gone and bought a factory un-ported barrel to drop in. Because I viewed that as being advantageous, but not really worth all the downsides.

If it's just a range gun, though, those are less important. For anything you intend to use defensively or on duty, in my opinion you're better off with the standard model.

JMO, YMMV etc. Also, I'm no expert, just some guy.

Glad you like your new G22c! As others have said, give it a try shooting at night and from retention (think shooting from the hip). If it is still fine for your then, you're GTG. If you are bothered by the flash at night or the blast from retention, you could always just get a factory uncompensated barrel to run in your G22c. No problems there.

If the OP is stupid enough to try that 22c from close retention (he doesn't seem to "get" the caveats previously posted), then I'd strongly suggest that he wear some tightly-fitting safety goggles.    I'd hazard a guess that he doesn't know what close retention means, based on his post about not getting gas in his face, when shooting from a Weaver stance.  Nobody ever said you'd get gas in your face, except in close retention firing!!!

I own a 17C that I bought for range use. I've shot it at an indoor range in low light conditions. Not dark, just lower light than usual. Those two flaming horns coming out of the top can effect your vision. In a dark hallway, I'm sure it would be much worse. If I needed a HD or CCW I would use my regular 17 or 19 for that issue alone.

I never plan on shooting close retention for my intended use. But if I was you I would listen to some of the posters above who have tried it. I'm pretty sure it won't be pleasant.

After reflecting a bit on his post, I've come to two conclusions.

1.  If one does not understand the question, one cannot possibly understand the answer.
2.  Clearly, all the other posters have been corrupted by internet writings and have never fired these or seen them fired under these conditions.  It is all a conspiracy.

Denial is a strange beast.

Tdunn if you are offenedI'm sorry. And I don't compete with a pistol so no timer!I'm not a police officer so I won't be shooting in dark alleys or anywhere when it is dark.I hope I never have to use a weapon on somebody. If they are in my house I will use my sig 220 with nite sights. And one well placed shot from a 45 game over!I'm sorry if my post offened you it was not my intent.I told someone on their post that when I picked up my 22c I would post what I felt.Maybe if I fired 151 shots instead of 150 I might have got blowby. I bought the pistol to shoot targets not people!

I'm not offended at all.  I just don't want folks to hurt themselves taking bad advice.  You really could benefit from some quality training.  Training isn't just for police officers.   Additionally, your preconceptions about the ballistics and effectiveness of pistol rounds as well as the lighting conditions under which most everyday folks are forced to defend their lives just aren't true either.  Lack of knowledge is no sin.  There are many things of which I am ignorant.  It is on us to educate ourselves.

If you would like some referrals to quality training outfits, the training forum on AR15.com is a great place to start.

Good luck!

Compensated guns are fun to shoot and they do make followup shots faster.
I agree with the other people here that a compensated gun would not be for me for CCW or home defense but not every gun has to be for self defense.
Some can be there just because they are fun to shoot.
Enjoy your 22C.

Tdunn you are right I could use some quaility training.I just started shooting pistolsept last yr! I did alot of service rifle shooting 30yrs of it. I started shooting pistol  docter recomended it! I had two lower back surgerys  and they didn't work!! When I shoot  my m14 or m1 garand 30 shots is all I can shoot  pain is terrible. I have to stop for 10 minutes  then procede. The back surgerys ruined me ! Had to stop riding my harley and sportbike.Anyway my doc said shoot pistols !!Wow  honey its docters orders to buy this Sig.Seriously I'm learning to shoot pistols from the start. My father tried to get me to shoot pistols I said no I like garands.I should have listened to dad he shot on the U.S. Army pistol team! He is gone now .I will learn more every day.I read  alot about how a ported pistol blew gas to the face and make your eyes water. It sounded like it happened all the time.Thats why when I shot 150 rds and never felt any blow by of gas. I was mislead by what I read on some of the posts.I have to find a teacher. They are having a GSSF match at the range this weekend.I going will learn something there! Two days of shooting fun!!

Agree Sir.

I've got a 23C.  Had a 19C.  Shot 19C from retention, at night, tilted slightly away from my body.  No problem.  Shoot ANY 4" bbl pistol from retention, at night, and there's a little flash...

Sorry, just my "Yeah, I've got one and I've done that" $.02.  Probably at least worth $.03.
