I acquired an older gen.3 17 and as I was inspecting it I noticed there are two notch marks on the slide. Any ideas as to how this happened? Is this bad or will the gun be fine in the long haul? Or what can I do to fix it? One of the feels a little sharp. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Slide peenning. Every 9mm and 40 S&W Glock pistol I have owned has done this. I would not lose sleep over it in all honesty.

No problem. That is just peening from the slide lock bumping the underside of the slide when the gun fires. It will get to a certain point and stop.

It is normal peening of the slide, nothing to worry about.

Thanks guys I haven't seen it in any of my other glocks. I guess that means I haven't shot them enough!

Does it have one of the older 2 pin frames? I believe the 2 pin frames caused more peening as the 3rd pin through the locking block helps keep it in place while the frame flexes. My older 2 pin G17 looks just like yours.
