| I just picked up my Glock 21 gen 4 and i was told about the barrels not being supported. Does anyone have info on this, and what aftermarket barrel do you think will work better barsto, storm lake, or kkm. I would like to reload sometime thanks |
| I've run over 300,000 rounds of my reloads through my Glocks, most of those rounds were shot through G21s. I believe I'd have found a systemic design problem by now. I don't load lead, but some folks claim that they shoot lead through their Glocks with no problems, with the caveat that they clean their barrels frequently. Very little chance of a KB with a low-pressure round like .45ACP. |
| WOW 300,000 rounds through your Glocks very nice. So what is everyone talking about Glocks having this problem? Do you use any aftermarket barrels. I want to start reloading my 21 and not sure what a good barrel to get, maybe the kkm or storm lake what do you think? thanks for your info |

Just use your Gen4's barrel. If you run into problems down the line then think about a change. I very seriously doubt you will. That being said, my Glock 21s (a Gen3 and Gen4) have shot very few factory rounds, and very few jacketed bullets. Currently, and for years the 45 ACP is / was my most reloaded and shot cartridge. I usually shoot between 300-500 rounds a week. I still frequently reload brass that I've been using since the 80s! Loading lead for the factory barrel took me a bit of experimentation to get the right combination of lube, size and hardness for the bullet, but once I did I've had a cheap clean shooting time ever since! I believe you'll be just fine with your factory barrel. I know I have been with mine! |
| nearly every kaboom glock or otherwise can 99% of the time be traced to ammo- bad reloads, trying to shoot jacketed bullets out of a heaily leaded bore, using a bad lot of ammo recalled by company etc. I have been around a lot of glocks in 20+ years and never saw one kaboom. This not fully supported stuff is bull. no auto pistol barrel can fully support a case. yes some may have a smaller feed ramp area and leave very small amounts more supported than in other barrel designs, but after market barrels are not a solution. Like others have said I never have issue with the factory barrel and yes I shoot reloads and lead bullets. with lead the key is to clean the bore every 100 rounds or so. the limited leading from that amount brushes right out with just a few passes of a brush. |
| I have a Lone Wolf barrel in my G21, but only because I wanted a threaded barrel to use with my Osprey suppressor. At the time, there weren't any factory threaded barrels available. I shoot my reloads in it all the time (I can't remember the last time I had any store bought ammo!). I've been using this configuration for 7 years now, 1000's of rounds through it w/o any issues. |

The rumor of Kaboom's in Glocks was not with the G21's the best I can remember. It was the G22's. Either way I wouldn't worry about it. Keep your reloads within spec and stay away from lead bullets. You wont have any issues.
The only reason I could see wanting an aftermarket barrel is for mounting a suppressor (threaded) or if you want standard rifling for shooting lots of lead bullets. |

Yep, the kaBoom! problems were with .40, not .45. I have an early G21 (serial number AEV***US) that I have >40,000 rds through, mostly my reloads, which use 230gr lead round nose bullets produced by a local company (Mastercast Bullets in Enon Valley, PA). For me, as long as I clean the barrel every 200 rds or so, no problems. Even then, I can't make out any leading, I just do it "just in case". Also, the .45 is a relatively low-pressure round and it would take quite a bit of extra powder in the case to get it up to the pressures that 9mm and .40 routinely produce.
With the early Glock .40 guns, the barrels at the feed ramp were REAL BAD! I had an early G23 and quite a few at my PD carried early Glock .40s. They left "smileys" on all the brass they ejected, even factory ("smileys" are cases that bulge at the feed ramp area). In fact, my G23 and another Officer's G23 both kaBoom!ed within a couple of months of each other, both with factory ammo. I ditched my G23 soon after it came back from Glock, the other Officer sent his back to Glock and they installed a new barrel that had better feed ramp support. Current .40 Glocks seem to be much better with case head support at the feed ramp. My G23 was quite a bit worse than the one pictured above. New ones seem to be better than the one above. I'll find out in a month or so, whenever we get them from Glock, since the new Chief at my PD has bought and is issuing everyone a Gen4 Glock 22. Bub75 |

Make believe people on the interweb who don't even own guns? |
| I have a G21 and no problems. I use JB ammo at the range and JHP for defense loads. I don't do regular lead at all....that is better left to revolvers. ANY feed ramp may end up with a problem if heavily leaded. The only problem I ever had in 15 years is cheap old ball ammo I should have recycled years ago and I used it at the range. I had 2 squibs and a stovepipe before I dumped the whole box. I still have the same barrel and it ain't shot out yet. |
