I usually don't use Dremel on firearms but this time I had to...
Deep inside my mind, I told myself I should send my barrel for expert machining work but lately I'm short changed.
So I hesitantly picked up hand files & Dremel...

Problem - The Gap
It is a Storm Lake barrel, which has threads machined from tip of barrel.
I noticed that OEM threaded barrels usually have the tip machined down removing 1st couple threads.

Solution - The Dremel Hack Job
Argh~~~ the horror.... At least it will be hidden under thread protector all the time.

The Finished Project -

AAC TiRant 9, RMR 8-moa dot, Tall sights, Storm Lake barrel

I'm a happy camper now!!

If it's stupid but it works, it's not stupid.

What is the advantage to not having it threaded to the tip?

Not sure about other suppressor manufacturers' piston designs but AAC piston won't thread all the way in w/ the threads at the barrel tip.
I saw Glock & Sig 9mm OEM barrels have the tip threads machined.

Inside of AAC piston, there is an o-ring that grabs on the machined barrel tip section.
It gives 'friction' fit to prevent loosening up while shooting.
