I just bought a G30 after having a 17 for years. I'm amazed at how tight the slide release is. I cannot get it to release unless I use both hands and it's tough on the thumb! Is this normal for a new Glock and it'll wear in or are some modifications in order? I understand the .45 has stronger springs than the 9 but geez...

Thanks,
Khaos

Yep that seems to be normal for the 30. I've shot 5-600 rounds through mine and it is still very hard to release.  I read somewhere that it is recommended to pull the slide back and release vs releasing it with the slide lock.

You are trying this with a full or an empty mag? With the empty magazine, you must overcome the full strength of the magazine spring pushing upward on the slide catch...yet we never do that when shooting the gun! Try it with a loaded mag...I'll bet it is much easier!

Forget the release.  Use the aforementioned "slingshot" method (pull the slide all the way back with your off-hand and quickly release it).

I keep extended releases on my Glocks ONLY for the rare and unfortunate instance that my left hand may be incapacitated or otherwise occupied.
