I think I may be picking one of these up soon.
This would be my first ever venture into Glocks.....shame on me right?
Im used to 1911's and reload tons of 45, so Id like to stick with the 45 ACP glock. I will be using this eventually as a carry weapon....is this a good or bad idea? I did a search on general info about them. Not much came up. Any info I should know before buying one? Im a little confused on the exact difference between the g30 and the sf, can anyone help describe the differences? Thank you! |
| I too came from high end 1911 pistols to tactical Tupperware. Now I own G-21,G-21SF,G -30,G-30SF. You are making a good choice. I sold off my safe queens and the Tupperware. I use them more and do not worry about scratches on them. I have about 3K rounds down one with zero cleaning or failures. |

Glock manuals specifically prohibit the use of handloads ......IIRC. Shot the G36 a bunch, real smooth for a tiny pistol spitting 230gr hardball I hope youre kidding....... What is the reasoning behind this? EVERY gun manufacturer says using reloaded ammo will void the warranty. |

Thanks for the advice so far. 1.So the difference between the sf and regular 30 is just a smaller grip? Everything else is the same? 2. Would an aftermarket barrel such as lone wolf offer any better accuracy? My Gen3 19 is very accurate. Completely stock. I'm hoping my new purchases are the same. I did get factory night sight, which I think is a huge improvement over the shitty plastic ones. |

Would an aftermarket barrel such as lone wolf offer any better accuracy? 1. Correct. I don't remember the exact number but I think its around 1/8 inch difference for the trigger pull length. 2. Glock factory barrels are plenty accurate and if you are considering the G30SF as a carry weapon STICK WITH THE FACTORY BARREL! |

Agreed. |
| I just picked up a g30 sf a couple days ago. I have a smaller hand so this fit my hand nice.I put 50 rounds through it with about 3 empty shells hitting me dead center in the head.I will be going back to the range on wensday, it may need a little breaking in.When i feild striped the gun getting the top slide off was harder then my g19,maybe because this has the double recoil spring,it seems like the recoil spring was hanging it up a little, when you are at the gun store try feild stripping it maybe its just me.Very accurate gun.Not much recoil, almost compare it to my g19.Need more rounds through it before I could say if i really like it or not.AS for sf that was already explained in the other posts.AS for glock ,i have thousands of rounds through my g19 and i love it ,not one bad thing to say. Will update after next range trip. |

Some were a joke and had lots of play in them. |

Would an aftermarket barrel such as lone wolf offer any better accuracy? 1. Yes. Specifically shorter frontstrap to backstrap. Many misinterpret the "SF" to mean, slim fame. This would be incorrect. Also, the short frame is not as noticeable on the G30 as it is on it's big brother, the full-size G21 and G20. In fact, the regular G30 may suit you more considering the "hump" in the frame is useful for controlling recoil under rapid fire. Try both if you can. However, neither are objectionable IMO. 2. Doubtful. Glock .45ACP are probably their most accurate chambering out of the box. It will never be a Colt Gold Cup, but they are surprisingly accurate. The G30 and G30SF are outstanding handguns. I am considering moving from my daily carry G19 in 9mm to a G30SF. I use it's big brother, the G21SF as my HD pistol, so it makes some sense from a magazine and ammo consolidation standpoint. 11 rounds of .45ACP in a package that small is SERIOUS firepower IMO. Invest in a good holster and belt, and that G30 will disappear on you. Good luck |

Thanks for the great responses guys! Should I be looking at any particular gen over any others? Also what would be a fair price for one? Not sure if Ill buy online or shop around at local shops. As far as I know, the Glock 30 is only available new in the 3rd generation ( has notch in dustcover for flashlight and fixed backstrap). A good price new would be $550 +/- $25. Add another $50 if it is equipped with night sights. A good used example would be $425-$450. If you see one local, snag it. They are not rare by any means, but certainly not the most common Glock. And please don't let any dealer try to talk you into unloading a Glock 38 on you. These are the models in the goofy stillborn .45GAP cartridge that sit around collecting dust at the gun store. |
