I have a G22 which I would like to convert to 9mm, so all I need is to change out the barrel with that from a standard G17 barrel?
Thats it?

I believe you need a barrel specifically designed to go from 40 to 9.I think it has something to do with the outside dimensions of the barrel as well as the inside dimensions.

This is my understanding as well, along with some G17 mags.

It's possible to use a G17 barrel in a G22, a buddy did it with his and I've put some ammo through it.  It would hit a 10"x10" plate at 15yards consistently, but I never tried to shoot groups with it.  It can be done, but if you're going to buy a barrel I would suggest buying a conversion barrel to minimize issues.  There are several conversion threads going with details.

Thanks for the info

I have heard that you should change out the extractor to the 9mm version to increase reliability.  Supposedly the 9mm extractor works for 9mm and .40 S&W and the .40 extractor doesn't work as well with 9mm.

I've never had a problem using the .40 SW extractor with my 9mm conversion barrel.

Neither have I, but there have been reports of some .40s not being reliable with just a barrel swap.

Go on gunbroker and get a "conversion kit" Basically the slide, barrel, and guide rod off of the other caliber gun. Works with 21/20's, 26/27's, 19/23's

I've used a 9mm Wolf conversion barrel for a few years now. Never changed anything but the barrel and mags. I've never once had a failure.

I did this once, and i locked the gun up. took me 2 hours to take it back apart.

Guide rods between 40 and 9 are the same.  If you're so worried about the extractor as to buy an entire slide, you should change the ejector out too.
I have 2 9mm conversion barrels, one for my G22 and one for my G23.  All I change is the barrel and mags.

The conversions already come with the rod, and a mag.

The ones i have seen all use the same ejectors. They are stamped with the same numbers on them.

The ejector is in the frame, more specifically the trigger mechanism housing.  There is most definitely a difference between the 40 and 9.

I don't have any 9's frames to compare to my .40's. I will look next time i get one. 10mm and .45 use the same ejectors though.

G19 on the right, G23 in the middle.  The 40's have a straight ejector while the 9's have a bent one.
