I just picked up a new Glock 17, 3rd gen. Took it to the range yesterday with a couple hundred rounds of BVAC once fired 115gr Fmj's. I swear I couldn't get through 2 magazines without a FTF problem, even after taking it apart for a closer look (nothing out of the norm) & lubing it up a little, not a lot.
I wasn't aware of any problems with new glocks, or glocks in general. I was using new factory magazines, and have had pretty good luck with Bvac for my AR. I picked up 100 rounds of Walmart special winchester to try to narrow down the problem between the ammo or the gun.
Anyone hear of this before?

Thanks.

Failure to feed or failure to fire? Either could be caused by using remanufactured(aka reloaded) ammo. Try some factory new ammo and you shouldn't have the same problem.

If it's failure to feed with the BVAC it's likely that the cases were not resized properly. If it's failure to fire it could be the same issue or it could be that the primers weren't fully seated.

I'd be interested in hearing your results with factory new ammo before coming to any conclusions.

thats a really good point with the bvac, its funny I never had problems with their .223. It was failure to feed. I started inspecting the bullets more, before and after ftf's and they looked fine to the naked eye. And they all fired fine the second time around.
I put this on another site as well, this is some additional info they asked about.

I will try bench resting to rule it out limp wristing.
I will take a picture tomorrow, I know I know I was so shocked it was happening I didn't think about a pic.
It seems like for the most part it failed to go into battery. The bullet was always in or going into the chamber, never up or down, It didn't look like it ever double fed, believe I had a FTE as well. The mags are "Glock", one new with the purchase and 2 new from a reputable calgunner. 10 rounds in each mag, each time, and it happened on all 3 mags.
I previously had a G21sf and never had problems.
As far as lube, no I didn't initiallty lube it since it has the factory fancy pants stuff. But after I started being concerned I broke it apart and oiled it, but not overly oiled.

I'll update tomorrow with more info and pics.
I'm trying some walmart federal in the morning.

BVAC is junk. But I'm still nervous about new production Glocks.

I'll give you that, for sure. That's why I'm so curious as to OP's results with factory ammo.

1000+ rnds through my wife's gen 4 G17, mostly bulk walmart stuff, 100rnds of that high-end HP stuff. FTF/FTE issues? Zero.

~10k rounds through an assortment of Gen 3 G19s, one stovepipe.  No joke.
~500 rounds through Gen 4 G17, no problems.

Ammo varies greatly, from steel cased Russian to Gov't issue to target.  No reloads yet though.

I

A Gen 3 with fail to feed problems?  Not possible.  It can only be limp wristing!  </sarcasm>

September 2010.  I bought a brand new Gen 3 G17.  It had serious fail-to-feed issues.  I read numerous threads on many websites and nearly everyone wanted to blame it on limp wristing.  Lots of idiots out there.

I sent it back to Glock for warranty service.  They "inspected, replaced the extractor, slide cover plate, recoil spring and cleaned".  500+ rounds later and I've only had one FTF that I remember.

Try a few different brands of ammo.  If it still continues, swap a few parts.  You'll spend nearly $60 sending it back to Glock for service.

I'm hoping the place I bought it will take care of the costs if new ammo doesn't cure the issue,  i'll be trying new ammo tomorrow.

As for the limp wristing, i only do that with my shirley temples. jk
It happened with several different grips.

I would be thinking that it's the ammo.  I have a 3 or 4 month old gen 3 rtf2 g17 thats had about a 1,000 rounds of reloads and facotry ammo through it without any problems.

Oh sorry I didn't pay attention to the fact that you were in California. Some of the 10 round 9mm magazines can give you failures to feed, it's the followers. A possible solution is to use 9mm3 followers, but that doesn't always work.

Try it with factory ammo first, if it still happens then try using some 9mm3 followers in your 10-round magazines. If that doesn't fix it then call Glock, though I don't know how much Glock would be able to help you because they can't ship magazines or magazine parts to CA. They'd probably tell you to go to one of their Glock Stocking Dealers somewhere near you.

Glock's new extractors are cheap too, so you could have an out-of-spec (tight) extractor.

Yeah, but what does that mean? Did you get to the range again and try some factory ammo and your gun ran fine? Details, man; details.

Range Report

100 Rounds Winchester 0 FTF/ FTE
100 Rounds Federal 0 FTF/ FTE
100 Rounds BVAC 2 FTF/0FTE

30 rounds in the glock 17 next to me at the range (rental with high use) 0 missfires
6 rounds in the Taurus missfired 2nd round, he wouldn't shoot anymore.

All with 10 rounds in mag, I saved the 2 FTF rounds and will test them in the barrel.
I contacted BVAC and they are talking to their bosses, so we will see how they back up their product. I think proforce is a good deal, and it was a fluke with the selling my mags, havent had other problems with them. Bvac seems concerned, so i'll update how they are with costumer service.
Conclusion: for a extra $5 I'll walk out of walmart with the ammo in hand...and I did, $215 for 1K rounds.

Oh and to settle the debate on limp wristing, I always shoot like this.

my bad
