Are night sights an absolute must for a carry/self defense/duty/home handgun?

Its pretty easy for any of those situations you listed to happen when it's dark so......yeah it would help. Tru glow fiber optic/night sights look pretty sweet.

I am going to say no the are not a MUST but most of my pistols have them. My 1911 and USP 45 full size both have them and they serve as nightstand guns. My main carry gun is a Glock 19 and I just havn't had the extra money to get them yet so I have put it off, but as soon as it's there I will be putting a set in.

The reason I really like night sights is because if you have to get out of bed at night your eyes are already used to the dark so the night sights show up amazingly well but they don't give away your position right away like a light would. Also bright gun lights can blind you if in a pitch black room and you turn it on full blast but I am also a fan of weapon lights in certain situations.

I say they are not needed, but they are very nice IMO.

No, they are very nice to have. I like them because I can find my gun on the nightstand when it is totally dark. I personally put night sights on all my pistols, but a good flashlight is more of a must.
