Alright guys, don't make fun of me if this is a stupid question

When I take my G17 apart, sometimes it doesn't want to go back together.

about 30% of time, the firing pin slides back and I depress the silver button (for lack

of the technical term) that lets me slide the firing pin back into the fire position.

Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Are you messing with the trigger when its apart?

Make sure the trigger is still all the way back when you put the slide back on - like when you dry fired it to take the slide off.
After you put the slide back on the frame, the firing pin will go back in the hole on it's own when the slide is pulled back.

Take it appart and put it back together a couple hundred more times.
I used to sit on the couch and watch TV while taking it appart and putting it back together over and over again.
... safety check not loaded, dry fire, take off slide, pull out spring, take out barrell, put back barrell, spring, slide, rack the slide, dry fire, and start over again...

Is this a Gen4?  If so it may help to reset the trigger prior to reassembly.  Also make sure the rear of recoil spring assembly is properly seated in the semi-circular indent on the bottom of the barrel.

This was my problem when I first disassembled a Glock.
