Equal light and equal height.

@Jesse: These are not the stock sights, which i believe the thread opener is using (keywords: dot, U)

the dot is in the Center of the U.
POI is the upper edge of the dot.

(at least, this is the case with my G17Gen4)

The paint doesn't matter. the pic posted above is the proper sight picture. The 3 dot, U-dot or any other configuration only help to speed alignment in theory and in daylight conditions. Regardless of what is drawn on the sight you still have to center the front post in the rear notch with the tops of all 3 on the same plane. Painting over the whie crap might even help you.

different height sights are available to adjust your shooting low.

9mms always shoot low for me, ive been thinking of getting higher sights in the rear to compensate for this.  .45s shoot level for me.

With my gen3 G23 I cover the Target with my front sight. Stock sights.

This. Stock sights offer what I think is called a "combat sight picture" meaning you put the sights directly over what you want the bullet to hit. I noticed the same thing on my Gen3 G17.

Taller front sight will shoot lower because it drops the muzzle.  Are you using to much trigger finger?  Check your grip?  Have someone else shoot it and see if it shoots low for them.
