I just picked up a used Gen 3 40 cal. There was someone telling me at the range that changing the guide rod to a stainless steel rod would take alot of the recoil out of it. I am new to the glocks. The recoil doesnt seem to bad but it did have me wondering if this is true?????

Some say the extra weight does help, some say they don't notice and why bother with replacing a part that works. It's all up to you to make the decision.

Changing to a stainless rod wont do much if anything for felt recoil but it will give you the ability to change spring weights which will have a large effect on felt recoil. Tungston rods will allow the same spring changes and a quite a bit heavier than stainless which will also change muzzel rise and felt recoil, BUT Tungston rods are very expensive. I use stainless rods in all 17 Glocks I own to change spring weights not for weight because I have no issues with muzzel rise or recoil for that matter. It just allows me to keep the gun cycling properly when I change ammo.

Unless you're a gamer switching spring weights all the time, an aftermarket guide rod does nothing.

Since it's used and round count might be unknown, I would just replace it w/ a new stock one, might as well get two if ording and paying shipping.
