trying to decide which Glock to purchase for conceal carry. I've never conceal carried before and I have decided there are too many options to choose from. Do I get the 26 for the small frame and high capacity? Do I get the 30 for the larger round but fairly fat (wide)? Do I get the 27 which is in between but some peeps say that the .40s&w can be difficult to shoot? Do I get a midsize frame? Do I ......aahhhhhhh!!!

I think I'm just going to buy the first one I find a really good deal on and be done with it.

I'll let this poll run for a week then buy whichever model wins!

glock 19IMO, small enough to concele easily, big enough to shoot well.  Stick with 9mm.  Capcity>caliber.

IMO the 26 is worlds easier to conceal under just a T-shirt or polo compared to the 19. I've got both, but if I could only choose one, it'd be the 26. A lot of people also shoot the G26 better for some reason.

My 27 is MUCH easier to conceal than my 19.

The 27 is not hard to shoot at all, its a bit snappy, but you get used to it quick.

Here is my 27 CCW setup, that I can't carry because I live in the People's Republik of Daleystan.  Note the greatly enlarged front sight, IMHO, that is important on a CCW handgun.  Once adrenaline kicks in, getting on that front sight fast is very important to me.

For the last year i've been using a G19 to carry.  It's served me well, but I've had to itch to get a G26 to replace it.  I sometimes find myself not carrying it cause of the size, especially in the summer.  Today I picked up a NIB G26 EXO, so that's what I'll be using from here on out.  If I could have only one, I'd stay with the G19, as its a great compromise.  Now that I have a G26, Im wondering how I've went this long without replacing my first one.  (sold several years ago)

I think you need to pick a Caliber first, then decided which platform you want.

I am fairly new to Glock myself, and I did the same as you.

I settled on a G22, this was also my first .40 cal.

The .40s do have the "snappy recoil" as it is called. BUT, it is not unmanageable.

Don't limp wrist it, and it seems to be fine.

I do Conceal Carry my G22, but that is not to hard in the winter time. It is a Large gun to conceal.

Because of that, and Spring/Summer coming, I also just picked up a G27. (use a G23 mag for my extra reload/carry)

The G27 is easy to conceal, but like others have said, the grip is a little small if you have large hands.

I will also be picking up a G23, well just because......

I probably would of bought the G23 first if I had it to do over again.

I was always a 9mm or .45 ACP shooter, and I still like those calibers, but I just decided that I liked what the .40 offered.

Doesnt the magazine extention make it about the same size as the 19/23's? Yes the barrel is shorter but isnt the handle length the most difficult thing to conceal?

Yes, when carrying, depending on the rig and my clothing, I might use the factory 10rd mag, instead of the 12rd extended one you see in that pic.

It would all depend on my choice of rig, clothing, activity, etc...

The 19 isn't a bad choice, but its a bit long on the longest dimension for some ccw applications.

Shoulder rig under a jacket?  GTG.

Hip or groin concealment rig?  Might be a bit long for that.

This is always tough....you need the gun, and your rig, AND your clothing and activity to all jive if you want to CCW and not have issues with printing, etc....

I think there are actually no bad choices in what the OP listed, its all going to come down to what works for him.

Of course keep in mind that all my "carry" testing has been conducted on my own private property, since I can't leave the house with a CCW in my horrible, awful, communist state.

How tall are you? If you are 5'10 and above, g19 hands down. Shorter and I would suggest the 26.

you're from Arizona? Probably gets hot down there. Might be worth it to stick with the 26 if you can't dress around a larger pistol .

Serious answer:  I find the 19/23 easily concealable with my Crossbreed Supertuck, under a t-shirt.  I'm 6', about 195LBS.

This.  I have carried a 23, 19, 27, and now a 26.  11rds of 9mm doesn't bother me and it is easier to sit with as well as easier to conceal if you are thin.  You can make it bigger but you can't make the 19 smaller.

19. By the time you add an extension to the grip of a 26, the only thing it has going is 1/2" shorter barrel.
I've never seen anyone carry a 26 without an extension of some sort.

I personally carry the G23. 13 rounds of 40s&w isn't something to sneeze at.
Plus, it is small enough to cover, but packs a bite, and it isn't that much larger than the G27.

some peeps say that the .40s&w can be difficult to shoot?

If it's difficult to shoot, it's difficult to survive continue fighting after being hit with it. (ALWAYS shoot to stop the fight, NOT to kill your opponent.)

My brother's ex-sil was FBI. She was about 5'7", 95 pounds soaking wet. (Admittedly, she was quite athletic.) She scored 95% on all FBI weapons.

Artillary, my point is this: recoil management can be taught, and it can be learned. If you cannot handle it with a Glock, then get another handgun. Get the biggest damn gun you can handle. And if you can't handle a big gun, learn how.

The 9mm is somewhat questionable in its ability to stop a fight with one shot. That's why the FBI decided to invent the .40.

I CARRIED A G19 FOR 2 YEARS AS A CCW GUN AND HATED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I EVEN LEFT IT AT HOME ALOT BECAUSE IT WAS TO BIG FOR CCW. THERE IS NO WAY TO CARRY A G19 IN THE SUMMER MONTHS AND BE COMFORTABLE DOING IT. I TRIED EVERY HOLSTER I COULD FIND AND THEN........................................I BOUGHT A G26 AND ALL MY PROBLEMS WERE SOLVED EVEN USING SOME OF THE HOLSTERS I BOUGHT FOR THE G19. THE G19 IS A GOOD GUN JUST NOT FOR CCW. ANYBODY SAYS THEY CAN CARRY ONE FOR CCW AND BE COMFORTABLE IS LYING, I TRIED FOR 2 YEARS.

I disagree 100%, and you're calling a lot of people liars with your last sentence.

"Comfort" is subjective.  My girl is comfortable with her ankles up to her earlobes, but I'm not.  Can't carry in a 19 in the summer months?  Maybe you can't, but that doesn't make it true for everyone.  It's not summer here yet, but I'm already wearing shorts and t-shirts most days; same as I would in the summer.  Still no problem with a 19/23 in a Crossbreed Supertuck.  Look at how many people CC fullsize 1911's.  They surely must be lying, right?

EDIT:...........and hit the caps-lock button on your keyboard.

EDIT#2:  I just saw your thread asking which holster you should get for your 19.  Obviously you haven't tried every holster, if you haven't tried the ones listed in that thread.  Some of the most highly recommended holsters were recommended to you.  If you hadn't already tried those, I gotta ask, which holsters did you try?

G19 winning by a landslide so far. I appreciate all the info. I rented a G26 this weekend and I didnt feel that I was that much more accurate with the 9mm over other .40s&w I have shot if any at all. I may go against the poll god and get a 23 just to satisfy my macho'ness to get a bigger caliber. lol.

I guess if I find myself not carrying because of the size of the weapon I can trade it in on a 27.

My advice is to buy a G 38 or G39 if you don't mind buying ammo on line. If not then go with a G19 or G26. All of the above are easy to conceal if you get a good IWB holster and a good gun belt.

Good luck.

I am currently carrying a G-30 on my ankle. I carried a g-26 for years but liked the G-19 best.

I am a big  fan of and voted for the G-19 due to the size and mag cap.. I would still be carrying a 26/19 if the crazy teen Gang members here in Chattanooga did not laugh at the pea-shooter (9mm).. They do not mess with the big bore of a .45!!!

I'd go with a 19 or 26, and personally carry a 19 in a Comp-Tac Minotaur every day without any issues.

I say a 19 or 30.  I started with a 30 and got a 19 and now rotate which one I carry depending on where I am going etc.  All are good carry choices with the right load. I would say shoot all of them as you may find you are more comfortable with one or even two over the others.

As for the the .40 being difficult to shoot, with practice one can overcome.  My first gun was a Sig 229 .40 double action only.  Pain in the ass at first but then damn near impossible to miss with it once I practiced and got used to the round.  It is a snappy round but nothing that you can't get used to.
3/14/2011 8:17:13 PM EDT
[#37]
I'd go for the 19 or 26 for the simple reason that it's cheaper to shoot.  That means more practice, and shot placement is important with ANY common handgun calibers.  I carry a G19 in the winter, I'm about to get a G26 for summer.  It gets hot here, and the G26 will be much easier to conceal.
