Yea Yea I know this has been beaten to death..
I have a barely shot Sig 226 .40 I picked up from a co worker a while ago and am thinking of trying to trade up for a Glock 19 Gen 3. (Also has the .357 sig barrel and a set of hogue wrap arounds in the box.) Why you ask? 1. For me being on a tight ammo budget I have to consider two things I am looking for either firepower or capacity. I have my .45 1911 which I love to death and will never part with and there's just something about the .40 that doesn't quite do it for me. 9mm is cheaper/ more readily available than .40 2. Buying extra mags for the Sig is $$$.. I mean jesus.. A quick check on Midway USA has 12rd for $40. I can buy a glock 33 rd for that much.. 3. Building a system AKA "interchangeability"..... Glock mags, most parts, holsters, all work cross model. Nothing wrong with the ergos of the Sig. Shoots straight as hell and have been pleased with it. Just trying to maximize my shooting dollar. Thoughts? Is it possible to get into a new Gen 3 19 in a trade? |

Keep the Sig. Look for .40 cal Bulk ammo deals. 500rd cases at a time. G19 Save a little each month, and get one of the Police Trade Ins. (might be a Gen 2 or maybe a Gen 3). Some places have some pretty good deals. Or join the GSSF and get a new one at a good price. |

Top Gun Supply had lightly used P226 .40/.357 magazines for $14.95 each for a long time. They currently show out of stock. I would sell the Sig if I wanted a G19; The Sig resale value is higher than the cost of the new G19. This definitely. You can find G19s all day long for $450, see if you can get $550-600 for your Sig (depending on condition, production model). I just did the same thing with a Kimber 1911. I knew it had a high resale value so I took it to a gunshow (probably could have done a bit better with a private seller, but I wanted to do it all in one place) and got enough for it that I could pick up an OD G17 3rdGen. |
| do it! you could probably negotiate a even trade with your 226 (w/ both barrels) for a new 19 w/ night sights. Sigs are nice, but if i wanted a 19 and i wasn't crazy about the Sig i would make this trade without hesitation. i doubt you will have any regrets. the Glock 19 is a fine piece. i really like mine and it's one of my favorite pistols... perfect for concealed carry. |

Why anyone would trade an $800 gun for a $400 gun is beyond me, but do whatever makes ya happy.. You are comparing a Glock police trade in price with an extremely high Sig retail price....lets be fair here. Used Sigs are in the 600 range and new Glocks are in the 550 range. OP, I think you got treated all right with that trade. |

I wouldn't of made the trade personally, but that's just me.. |

Cool. Just made an even trade for a brand new G19 at my local gun shop. Should be here tuesday did you negotiate for night sights like i suggested in my original post? if not, you still made out okay. with night sights though, you would have made out even better. |

New Sig P226 .40 with a .357 Sig barrel and Hogue grips wont run you $800? I'll give an example Impact guns has Sig P-226 .40's for around $840 new and Glock 19's for $499 new. Sig Barrels are what $160-180 |

I am not saying that a Sig is better than a Glock, nor am I saying Glock is better than a Sig. But there is NO WAY I would trade a gun that I paid $600-$800 for, to get a gun that I could get for $350 used and $500 new. Now with that being said, If the OP is content/happy, I guess that is all that matters. IMO, just wasn't that Awesome of a deal. |
