Is it necessary to change the extractor and ejector for a G23 to run reliably with a conversion barrel? I've read probably a dozen articles on this tonight and it's about 50/50. Some are saying they've never had an issue with just changing the barrel, and some have mentioned how they carry it as their CCW. Others have said they wouldn't carry it unless they replaced everything, and some included the slide.

Or should I just hold off on buying the conversion barrel <I was going with Storm Lake> and save up for a new Gen 3 Glock 19?

I would think both would need to be changed, since the case head diameter is smaller - the extractor probably wouldn't engage deep enough, and the ejector would be too far off to the side.   It might still function, but I wouldn't bet my life on it's reliability.

I think the simpler solution would be to buy a 19.

I did alot of research on the matter too.

I would buy the barrel and extractor; the extractor is a less that 20 dollar part for insurance.  Swap out the barrel and if there are alot of failure to ejects swap out the extractor too.

Wouldnt hurt to get an extra .40 cal small parts kit while your at it either.

Armorer price on the extractor is $13 and replace the Trigger Mechanism Housing w/ ejector SP00322 $5.00.  Those two parts along with a barrel MIGHT work for practice.  The breachface on the 9mm and the 40 cal slide is cut differently. Adding a 9mm barrel to a 40 slide allows the 9mm cartridge to move side to side on the breachface as it gets stripped off the magazine. There's a lot of wobble room there and I would not use the gun for self defense.
