Do all of them have that "window" on the slide thru which you can see the barrel between the ejection port and the front sight?
This question may be as stupid as a glock question gets, but I was just wondering.

I think that is a cutout to reduce slide mass.

Correct, cut made to reduce slide mass. Same on G35 also. Believe the 17L and 24L also have cutouts in slide also.

Yes, that's what it's for, Newer Glock 18s have it too. The question still stands though.
